TLX AWD V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,300 miles

As reported by many others, our brand new TLX V6 AWD jerked from day 1 when it shifted somewhat between gears 1 and 2 and distinctly between gears 2 and 3. We had the software update done for the transmission in September, and it was far worse. After taking the car back and complaining about the problem, the dealer reran the learning procedure and there was some improvement. It still was nowhere near smooth. We took it back a second time and were told that it was "operating as designed." It was also pointed out that we did not buy the car at that particular dealership, as if that matters. We have had the car back to the dealership where we purchased the car, and they made an effort to solve the problem but admitted that they realized it was not smooth. We were invited to meet with a district representative to discuss the problem. She rode in the vehicle and said she felt what we were talking about but explained that is how this model of car drives. We drove another vehicle of the same model from the lot and she accused my husband of driving the car differently so that it did not shift in the same way as ours. She refused to replace the transmission as we requested and also refused to give us the contacts for her superior. She basically said that there is no fix for the problem. How does a company get to admit that a product is defective but refuse to do anything about it? We are continuing to work with the dealership where we purchased this defective vehicle to come to an acceptable resolution. We would love to get rid of this piece of junk. No vehicle in this price range should drive like this. It is unsafe to pull out into traffic not knowing how much it will hesitate and jerk in the shifting process. This is our first Acura and will be our last! Acura needs to own up to their error and make it right!

TLX 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 500 miles

I have noticed a jerk between 2nd and 3rd gear all the time especially on the stop and go traffic and cold weather. In addition, a car resists for a couple seconds when accelerate and push foward in traffic. The problem has occured after a week of buying vehicle. The first trip back to a dealer, sale man told me that the vehicle is new and its normal .... Stupid answer because they dont want to admit it has problem. On the second trip back on 10/10/2015, an advisor told me that there is a bulletin for that issue, they have hold my vehicle for 5 days for technicians all over States to flight in and collected data sending to Acura center ... After 2 times of updating the software, my car is still having issue. They told me to continue to wait until the next 6 months and hopefully Acura might come up with another SW load. They told me not worrying because transmission has warranty until 6yrs/7000miles.... I have 2012 TL but.not having any issue like this new one. I am very disappoint and this is a wake up call for me of not checking this web site prior of purchasing this vehicle.

While my 2015 in a shop, a dealer gave me another 2016 Acura TLX V6 advance package to drive. It has the same issue. I am not going to wait my time and.money for this game. I have contacted the law firm for Lemon Law assistance proccesses. PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE AS MINE AND DO NOT BUY THIS VEHICLE. Say GOODBYE TO ACURA. Lexus is.more reliable and has less issue.

TLX ADV 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50 miles

Unacceptably jerky shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. Also from 1st to 2nd, but not as severe. Was noticeable even when new. No noticeable change after 3700 miles. Shifting between higher gears seems smooth and normal. When notified, dealer said they will look at it at the next service appointment. Service is scheduled for next week. Will post update after service.

TLX 2.4L I4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 200 miles

The transmission jerks and lunges at slow speeds and stop and go traffic. It's like playing Russian Roulette in traffic. You never know if it's going to accelerate, do absolutely nothing or lunge into the car in front of you. Acura states that they've never heard of this problem and that everybody loves this car. In the past couple days of researching online, I've read HUNDREDS of complaints on this issue.

TLX Advanced 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 7,210 miles

Acura Client Care states that the ZF 9 speed transmission is "performing as expected", however ZF reports that the issue is a software problem. I have driven eight different 9 speed TLXs, and most had varying degrees of poor shifting. One shifted perfectly, so I know that this is a fixable issue. For the sake of customer retention and to improve sales, Acura needs to present a PERMANENT software or hardware fix for this god awful transmission. I can not believe they put this in a brand new model. Shame on you Acura. Please fire your R&D lead that decided THIS was the correct way to introduce a new car to buyers: especially buyers new to the Acura brand. It is amazing how badly a poor shifting transmission can absolutely RUIN the driving experience, when all you can do is focus on how to best drive the car to minimize the bad shifts. You end up completely upset and has given me really bad buyers remorse with this car. Beware before you buy the 9 Speed V6. The transmission are terrible in many. Test drive, test drive, test drive! Not highway either: drive in stop and go traffic, up and down hills.

TLX SH-AWD Advance 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 10 miles

From the start I noticed a jerkiness in shifting in my new V6 SH-AWD Advance TLX that I did not notice test driving other models, my specific car was brought in from an external warehouse so I did not test drive it specifically. My salesperson assured me there was a software fix already out for it and that I could come by and get it updated. I've gone in twice already and both times they have failed to fix the harsh 2-3 gear shift.

The car is a pain to drive, I deeply regret trading in my Infiniti for this. My old Honda Fit I used to drive accelerated more smoothly than this TLX. I know not everyone is having this problem, but the problem definitely exists for some. Not sure what can be done as I wouldn't classify as particularly dangerous, just an absurd rip off that a $40k car drives like this. Actually, this is unacceptable performance for a car at ANY price.

Acura should be ashamed of themselves for putting this out on the market and not recalling it. If this isn't fixed soon I might just have to eat my loss and sell this piece of crap for a loss. I'd almost feel guilty passing the problem onto someone else though, it's that bad.

TLX Advance 3.5L V6 9at

  • Automatic transmission
  • 15,861 miles

The transmission shifts erratically hard between 1st and 2nd gear and between 2nd and 3rd gear. Shifts rough enough at times that passengers can feel the shift. Shifts poorly in all modes. Acura dealer doesn't want to acknowledge the issue although its all over the internet. Very dissatisfying when you spend 40K on a car to have a poor shift and many other problems that I will also post.

This is my third Acura and based on the companies response to the problem will be my last. The transmission shifting is the worst I have ever encountered and for a "luxury" car is unbelievable.

The dealer is not any help. This is expected since Acura has not given them any guidance other than to say this is normal.

TLX ADV V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 5,800 miles

Have purchased 2 TLs in the past, mixed results. My wife also had an Acura. This is the last Acura I will purchase.

My car was in the shop for 38 of the first 60 days. Periodically would not start. Cannot get car in neutral to tow unless car is started! After 3 time in the shop Acura engineers said remove the wiring harness and check for loose wires. Actually fixed the problem. (did receive some lease payment relief from Acura).

During the same time period, I have experienced a hard shift between second and third. Not only is annoying, it is embarrassing to have a person that knows cars feel the horrible transmission. The tech has acknowledged problem, but says since Acura has not come out with a bulletin, they can do nothing.

Recently I have had a problem with the engine trying to override the brakes. When it is first started, if you slow down to about 800 rpm then let off the brake the rpm will increase on its own to about 1200 rpm with increase in speed. Traveling on the open road, if you let off on the gas the rpm will decrease to 1200 rpm but maintain that rate and the car will continue down the road with no accelerator. I have let this happen for at least 1/4 mile. I took it into the dealership and their "expert" drove it and said all was "normal". I drove a TLX loaner, and unfortunately it appears that car also had the problem.

Even if it is "normal", does not mean it is correct or safe. I put the dealer on notice that there is a problem they do not fix and hope that it does not injure anyone in my family.

TLX 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 25 miles

I bought this car 1/15 but hardly drove it for first few months. However, it "clunked" hard once when braking to a stop in my garage first month I owned it. Now have 2,500 miles on car. Biggest problem is that when braking to a stop it usually vibrates and jolts. Sometimes it stops with a hard jolt, which is very distracting and annoying. It never brakes to a stop smoothly. I took it to Acura last week and they said they did a software update, but it didn't help. My car is 4 cylinder with tech package. Interestingly, the 6 cylinder loaner car exhibited none of these symptoms. Nor does my 2015 Acura RDX. Will be bringing back to dealership soon.

Update from Jul 7, 2015: I have been back to the dealership (Acura Carland in Duluth, Georgia), where a took a test drive with service foreman. I have also spoken with customer relations person Damon in California a few times, all without any resolution. Unless I literally "ride" the brake to a stop, the car "clunks" noticeably. When I ride the brake it still jolts to a stop, albeit not quite as abruptly. Also, when downshifting, it rides rough, likes it's trying (unsuccessfully) to find the right gear. I took car on a ride with service foreman. He said he doesn't know why Acura switched transmissions (by the way, mine is the 8 speed). He also said a female purchaser literally gave him her Acura TLX to drive for an entire month. He said that at first it took some getting used to, but once he did it worked fine. He also said they are doing updates, so next time I have oil change, have them do so. After last time I brought car back, Damon said I will get a follow-up call from dealership. However, that was almost 2 weeks ago, and I still haven't heard from them. P.S. I told them that I am an attorney, and mentioned the class action in California, but that accomplished nothing.

TLX V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 600 miles

BOUGHT 2 2015 TLX. ONE A 6 CYL, ONE 4 CYL. BOTH CARS JERK OR LUNGE FORWARD. THE TRANSMISSION DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO SHIFT FROM 1-5. THE GEARS DO NOT FLOW SEAMLESS AND THE TRANS ISN'T SURE WHICH GEAR TO GO INTO. I SPENT OVER $60000 FOR THESE LUXURY CARS AND ANYTHING WOULD BE BETTER THAN MY ACURA. I HAVE BEEN A LOYAL CUSTOMER FOR 8 YEARS BUT NEVER AGAIN.

MY SERVICE ADVISER WILL NOT ADMIT THERE IS AN ISSUE, AFTER BRINGING THE CAR BACK 3 TIMES. ALL THEY DO IS TAKE SCREEN SHOTS WHICH SHOW NO ISSUES AND THE TECH WILL NOT ADMIT THERE IS A PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THERE IS A CONSPIRACY AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF MANAGEMENT AT ACURA BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT ANOTHER RECALL. I KNOW THAT SOUNDS CRAZY BUT I THINK 100% THAT IT'S TRUE.

IF YOU ARE IN THE MARKET FOR A NEW CAR DO NOT BUY THE ACURA TLX ANY LEVEL YOU WILL BE SORRY AND THE MANAGEMENT WILL NEVER ADMIT THERE IS A PROBLEM. SO YOU THINK YOU'RE CRAZY, BUT BELIEVE ME, YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

CAN YOU SAY CLASS ACTION? WE NEED TO SEND A MESSAGE TO ACURA WE ARE NOT CRAZY AND ACURA SHOULD ADMIT TO THIS PROBLEM AND COMPENSATE US FOR WASTING DAYS OFF AND MENTAL AGGRAVATION.

TLX 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 300 miles

I leased the car on Sept 22, 2014, and ever since the beginning the transmission hesitates and has a jerky motion, when cold, in traffic and coming to a stop. Sometimes after coming to a complete stop, the transmission seems to bang in, like getting tapped from the back. I had two TSX'S before this TLX, and the transmission was smooth. Acura had to make it an 8 & 9 speed transmission.

I've called corporate headquarters in California several times, and they told me I had to deal with the dealership, (just washing their hands of the situation). The dealer says they don't know what to do, unless Acura comes up with a solution. I asked to talk to a Rep. that comes to the dealer every so often, and they never notify me. Acura really screwed up with this one. In my opinion, they got rid of the best car in their fleet, the TSX, and came up with this piece of crap.

I've already been telling people that ask about the car, not to buy or lease it, unless they want aggravation. Trust me, its not that kind of TRILL.

TLX Advanced V6

This is supposed to be a "luxury" vehicle. There have been two recalls since I picked it up in Sept 2014. There was a software glitch and later a transmission recall to fix a parking brake problem. Each time I reported a rough shifting from 1st to 2nd gear (slight) and from 2nd to 3rd gear (very pronounced) They have yet to fix the problem. I could shift a manual smoother than this "advanced" automatic transmission system. I am just waiting to get the next recall. I've owned several Honda and Acura cars over the years but this is the last.

TLX Tech Package V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 5 miles

Switching between 2nd and 3rd gear the car lunges forward. At times it's not quite as severe, other times it feels like I got rear-ended. Car had 5 miles when I bought it. Took it to the dealership's service department and their response is that as of right now the car is driving as intended and there is no fix available. Also told me if there was a fix in the future, it would likely come in the form of a software update. Gear switch from 1st to 2nd has a mild hiccup. Every other gear change except for the first two is seamless.

This is the most I have paid for a car and I am EXTREMELY frustrated with this issue.

TLX 9 Speed With Tech 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,200 miles

My first Acura and what a nightmare! Cars half the price have better transmission control.

The transmission on this car is pretty bad between gear changes 1 and 2 and worst when going to 3rd gear from 2nd. The car does lunge forward between gear changes and even when braking. The brakes definitely hesitate and the Brake notification goes off for absolutely odd reasons; and doesn't go on when it needs to! I have never experienced so much dissatisfaction driving a car and I have owned a few and driven a lot since I travel a lot.

This is my first and most definitely the last Acura no matter what fix is applied, if any.
