TLX

 • Automatic transmission
 • 2,000 miles

My brand new Acura TLX 2015 is the worse car Ive even had & unfortunately the first new car Ive ever had. I thought long & hard about what car to buy & this is a death trap. It surges forward when you are coming to a stop. The first time it happened husband was in the passenger seat & was thrown forward. He said I was on the gas which I wasnt but then it happened to him. Its so scary I cant drive comfortably as it cant predict when it will do it. Im scared I will rear end someone. I took it in for repair August 8th. They gave me a loaner & its November 10th & they never call me. They said they have another one in with a similar problem & they are using that one as a guinea pig. Maybe cause mines a lease? Well Ill just carry on I guess in my 3 month loaner paying every month & wondering what the heck Im doing....
Update from Jan 5, 2017: Guy came out from Honda to investigate the surging problem. He would only test drive for 35 minutes & as it didnt surge during that silly little time gave the car back to me. He agreed if it had surged he would not have given it back. Very uncool to dismiss a problem after 35 minutes. No repairs were done during the 3 months Acura kept the car it was given back with the problem & now Im driving it & of course its surging forward. Basically they do not care. I guess when he came over, introduced himself, handed me his business card & said "theres my card do what you want with it" before I had time to say two words I guessed this wasnt going to be favorable. It did two fine surges today. Acura you suck.

TLX Tech 2.4L

 • Automatic transmission
 • 8,225 miles

I purchased my 2015 TLX TECH 2.4L in June 2015. My car was a certified pre-owned with 6,000 miles. This is the 4th Acura I have owned (Vigor, TL, TSX and TLX). After driving the vehicle for about a week we noticed some problems with the way the transmission shifted. When coming to a stop it feels like the RPM's raise and the vehicle shifts into 1st gear. This can be very scary because all of the sudden the car surges forward and if you are close to another car you could hit them. Our car also has some problems shifting 2nd to 3rd. There is a hesitation and then a slam into the gear.

I have taken my vehicle into the DCH Acura dealership only to be told the there is no service bulletin for the transmission problem and unless there is a service bulletin for the problem, they can't fix the problem. I explained that I was extremely concerned with the surging and I was concerned for my family when driving this car. They told me that I could leave the car at the dealer and they would give me a loaner but they were not going to fix the problem.

I decided I would take this a step further and contact Acura client relations @800-382-2238 and I spoke to Tony. Tony set an appointment up with me, the service manager and the head Acura mechanic at the dealership. We all went on a test drive and I was able to mimic the shifting problem from 2nd to 3rd but not the surging. We drove back to the dealership and again I was told that Acura has no bulletin's for the transmission problem and there is nothing they can do.

I was then contacted by Tony from Acura client relations who explained that he spoke to the dealership and he was happy that we were able to mimic part of the transmission problem however Acura does not have does not have a fix. He then went on to explain that it is the driving characteristics of the Acura TLX. Tony had no solution except giving me some BS answer that he was probably reading out of a book.

Acura has completely disappointed me and lost all my confidence in the manufacturer. I can't believe that with all the issues we are having especially the surging issue that they are not being more helpful. The surging issue is a real safety issue. At any time this car can surge and hit another car or a person in a crosswalk. I am very worried and we have decided that we will drive the car as little as possible.

TLX 2.4L

 • Automatic transmission
 • 14,000 miles

Problem is not solved. Had to dealer twice for transmission updates that does not solve the problem. The issue is that occasionally when you come to a stop the car lurches forward. When it happens your first reaction is that someone hit you from the rear.

TLX SH-AWD 6

 • Automatic transmission
 • 5,400 miles

My TLX SH-AWD 9 speed transmission will occasionally, suddenly lurch forward when started. This happens, perhaps one in 25 starts. It feels like the car is being started in drive but it is actually in Park. It is suddenly stopped short as park seems to engage, the car then rocks. Anyone outside the car is alarmed, especially those near the front of the car. The car has had the most recent transmission recall installed,

Update from Feb 3, 2016: It was checked by Acura, they couldn't replicate the problem. A technician from Acura (over the phone) explained that the Park position on the transmission, is not a PIN as in the older transmissions, but a cam type system and on occasion it comes to rest high on the cam. When started, that causes the car to rock, as it drops into full park, low end of the cam. It feels like the car is in drive and going forward but that is not the case. It was suggested to push the park button before shutting off the engine. Since the car is in no real danger of proceeding forward in drive gear, my concerns are lessened.

TLX

 • Automatic transmission
 • 20,000 miles

I recently had updates done on my car one of them being the idle relearn and ever since then my car isn't acting right. It doesn't change gears smoothly, the rpms rev up at times and it lunges forward after coming to a complete stop. By the end of the day I felt like I had whip lash. Also the auto idle stop doesn't work anymore. I didn't have any of these problems until they did the update. Acura Is giving me the run around claiming there is nothing wrong with the car and no codes are coming up and allgedly they performed everything according to Acura standards. Very dissatisfied.

TLX Advanced V6

 • Automatic transmission
 • 220 miles

Like many others who drive the 9 speed TLX the transmission shifts roughly 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd. But more seriously, even after recall the Parking brake doesn't always engage allowing the car to roll. Also around 40+MPH with the foot off the gas the car suddenly accelerates. This initially happened when coasting downhill, but now on level road in traffic as well. Very dangerous. The car hesitates when going from a full stop forward. Shifting from Reverse to Drive there is also a long hesitation before the transmission engages.

I've had the car in 4 times in less than a year. I am scheduled to bring it back to the dealer on Sept 22nd. for the fifth time. When the Manufacturer's Representative was made aware of the problem during my last service in June 2015 He admitted Acura was aware of the problems and looking into a software solution. Until there are several fatal accidents caused by this problem Acura seems to be putting its head in the sand hoping for the problem to go away.
