My car was having the passenger restraint malfunction displayed on the screen and it was intermittently on and off for a long time but recently the fault is constantly on doesn't matter what I do even when I have the passenger or not. This is a safety issue so searched to understand it better and found the NHTSA campaign id number: 08V384000 for the recall of the passenger seat mat defect which covers my car but for some reason I've contacted the BMW dealer where I bought my car from to see if I can get it fixed based on the recall for free of charge but the dealer told me that I car is not covered even though my car is one of defected car based on manufacturing date. The cost of the mat replacement is over $1000, I think BMW should fix my car for free since this is a safety recall issue. Please have BMW to include my car in the recall list.

I own a 2006 BMW 3 series. While driving approximately 5 mph, I noticed that the air bag warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics where the technician advised that the front passenger seat sensor mat would have to be replaced. I referenced NHTSA campaign id number: 08V384000 (air bags:frontal) that could have been related to the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 64,000.

My 2006 BMW 525I passenger side airbag malfunction light came on and is a bad sensor in the seat. There has been a recall on this for other 2006 BMW's but mine is not included in this. It is the same problem as all of the other recalled ones. The NHTSA campaign id# is 08V384000. I believe the problem is more widespread than the ones recalled.

2006 BMW 325I, VIN #[xxx]. beginning in 2007 the sensor for the passenger air bag has been off, regardless of the weight of the passenger. Current recall states that my model vehicle is not covered for the recall of the front passenger airbag seat sensor mat, but if it went out after only one year it would appear that it, too, is defective. I was never contacted by BMW about a recall since my vehicle is not listed as being defective, but it clearly is. I'm certain that I am not the only 2006 BMW 325I owner that has had this issue, and the recall should be extended to all models, not just the sport seat model. The indicator light indicating that the seat belt is off remains on constantly, regardless of the weight of the passenger. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

When an adult is seated in the front passenger seat of the vehicle, the air bag service indicator, no seatbelt indicator, and "passenger airbag is disabled" indicator are all illuminated. When taking my vehicle in to the local BMW service center to diagnose the issue, I was told the cause was a faulty passenger seat sensor mat (have documentation), which is meant to detect when a passenger is present. In addition, I was told in my vehicles current state, if I were to get in an accident with a passenger present, the passenger airbag would not deploy. While performing independent research, I found that BMW has released an official recall (#08V384000) which describes these same symptoms, caused by a defective passenger seat sensor mat. In the recall details, the make, model, year and seat type all match the specifications of my vehicle. After discovering the recall information, I contacted BMW of North America representative by telephone. I was told that because my vehicle VIN is not on the recall list, the repair must be done at an out of pocket expense. I am filing this complaint because the defective seat sensor reduces the safety of the vehicle passengers, as well as violates air bag regulations established by the NHTSA. Since this is a defect, the cost should be covered 100% by the manufacturer, BMW.

Damaged airbag sensor mat on front passenger seat that disables the airbag from deploying on the passenger side when the front passenger seat is occupied. This is a common problem, that BMW only recalled 200,000 in 2008. Very costly and dangerous.

My vehicle has the exact same problem that BMW recalled in the NHTSA campaign# 08V384000. The problem is with my front passenger airbag seat mat has cracked. This defect has already been verified by an authorized BMW dealer at my own cost. But for some reason, my vehicle in not one of the 200,000 vehicles in the official recall. So BMW refuses to take care of the problem. I filed a complaint with BMW na but they will not cover this problem. This is a safety issue because my passenger side airbag is now disabled permanently because of this defect.

Recently my 2006 BMW 325I's airbag and seat belt warning light came on. The problem started shortly (one month) after it came off the factory warranty. It was intermittent and I was extremely busy so I did some research and discovered there was a manufacturers "voluntary recall campaign" I never received notice but noticed the recall noticed the recall EA08-001 mentioned cars with sport seats as part of the problem. I called BMW na and was told that my VIN did not qualify. Over time the problem worsened ad eventually last month the lights just stayed on. Again calling BMW na they suggested I visit my dealer to hook up the car to their diagnostics machine. I took the car in and they confirmed that the seat mat sensor was the problem and replaced it for a total of $990. I contacted BMW informing them that the seat sensor should be covered under the terms of the recall and I offered to pay for parts if BMW would pay for labor. I was informed that they would inform me of the corporation's decision in 5 business days if they would compensate me for the repair due to my vehicles low mileage. I was just informed today they would not compensate me at all today due to my payment after the sensor was replaced. They also added that they almost never compensate after services are payed. I believe that since front passenger seat occupancy detection mat disables the passenger air bag system it is an essential part of the vehicle's safety system as acknowledged by BMW nhsta campaign number 08V-384 and confirmed by the NHTSA engineering analysis EA08-001. I believe that BMW is not conforming to the intent of this recall program and is limiting their liabilities due to defective components.

My 2006 BMW 325I front passenger sport seat was diagnosed by dealer to have a cracked front seat sensor mat of the air bag protection system. This defect causes the front passenger air bags to be deactivated & the air bag warning lamp to illuminate. This situation could cause the front passenger air bag to be deactivated & not deploy in an emergency. Therefore not protecting the passenger. This defect is a known defect & is covered by the nhtsha campaign #: 08V384000. BMW stated that my VIN # [xxx] was not part of the 200,000+ vehicles recalled. Certified mechanics verified the details of the recall & the faults shown on the diagnostic check of the air bag protection system to be the same. I am asking that NHTSA issue a letter directing that my vehicle VIN be included in the recall so that the system can be restored & the warranty be extended as directed in the BMW recall of 2006 3 series sport seats. Thank you for your consideration in this matter. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

I have an 06 BMW 330I with the sport seats. The passenger seat occupancy detector has been causing the SRS light to come on. I did some research and found that my vehicle has the same type of seat mat that was recalled, however BMW says that the recall is VIN specific and my car is not covered even though I have the same type of seat mat that was recalled.
