I keep getting warnings that the head lamp, running lamps are malfunctioning. I took it in for service and found exposed wires and was told this is a fire hazard resulting in the headlight wiring insulation flaking off and leaving copper wire exposed and wires are touching, uninsulated wires. Wires are shorting out the lights, burning bulbs and cause malfunctions in the headlights, turn signals, parking lights, and daytime running lights and is a fire hazard.

I received a message that the right brake light and signal light were malfunctioning. Dealer wants to charge inflated price of $550 to correct on a 4 year old car with only 32000, when I researched on the internet this seems to be a constant issue with 2008 and 2009 5 series bmws. 100S if not more of this problem are on internet and the complaints along with the cost BMW is charging to fix.

The grounding wire in the connector to the tail light bulb holder melted and melted parts of the connector. This resulted in no signal, brake and running rear lights. A recall has been called for BMW E46 3 series for this exact problem (see below). The recall should be expanded to cover the 5 series as well.
