problem #1

M3 E93 4.0L 8 cyls

  • Manual transmission
  • 60,300 miles

I was on my way home driving about 75 miles/h when all the sudden I heard a loud rattle noise and the car just cut off on me in the middle of the hwy!! Good thing it was a manual transmission and I was able to drift to the shoulder without causing an accident. There was a strong smell like burning oil. I sat on the shoulder for a couple minutes and tried to start the car, it took three tries. When the car started it was making a loud noise and wanting to cut off, I drove it home (six miles) with the power button ON and at about 5000 rpm, plus then after the engine cooled down I drove it to BMW another (five miles). all of this happened and the engine light never came on!!

BMW has diagnosed that it was an engine malfunction and it had dropped a piston. There are metal particles in the oil. The vehicle needs an new engine! it's cover by my extended warranty, of course I have to pay a deductible.

How can a $25000 engine can by so poorly built!!

I'll keep you posted as I know more next week.
