Alternator overcharging producing 16V and causing system to go to fail safe mode. It will shut off vehicle and switch it in park mode. While driving any mode then eco and auto shutoff turned off. Vehicle will shut off, sometime when break released it will start and you can continue driving, other times will not start and will disengage transmission and switch to park mode. With warning that "transmission is malfunctioning " "do not turn off engine or continued driving may not be possible. Consult nearest service center

The contact owns a 2017 BMW X3. While driving approximately 20 mph uphill, the vehicle stalled. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to park ave BMW (530 huyler street, South hackensack, NJ 07606) where it was diagnosed that the fuel delivery module under the rear seat got wet and shorted out. As a result, fuel was not being delivered to the engine. The night before, the contact stated that there was a cooler in the rear seat that tilted and spilled water and ice onto the rear seat. The seat was immediately cleaned. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 20,441.
