X5 4.8i V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

BMW Nightmare! 7 months ago my X5 died while I was driving the vehicle. Fortunately, there were very few cars on the road at the time. I jumped the car and took it straight to United BMW in Duluth Georgia. They informed me that everything checked out fine and I simply needed a new battery. Fast forward 7 months and the vehicle died again while I was driving at a speed of 45 mph. I nearly got rear-ended. My family and I made it home after getting the car jumped, only to have it die in my driveway. Oh wait! It get's better. The vehicle was towed to United BMW in Duluth this morning. I explained the history to the representative named Scott Green. Scott's response to me is as follows:

1. You must drive the vehicle at least 20 miles a day. 2. You must lock the vehicle when you're not driving so the system completely shuts down. 3. We recommend you purchase supplemental power for the vehicle to ensure the batter is adequately charged. 4. If your fuel is low you may also experience problems.

My response to Mr. Scott Green: "No one in their right mind would purchase a BMW based on what you described"!

His response: My job is to give you the information. I apologize if your sales representative failed to do so.

Needless to say, I'm afraid to let my wife or kids operate this vehicle.

BMW, IF THIS ISSUE DOES NOT GET FIXED ONCE AND FOR ALL, AND WE END UP IN AN ACCIDENT, YOU WILL PAY DEARLY!

X5 4.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 69,000 miles

I have 2008 BMW X5, 4.8L with 69,000 miles on it. Last winter, the car stalled all of sudden with all the lights on dashboard. I was able to get back home. Next day, it was driving OK. About three weeks ago, the car was stalling on the highway again. All of sudden, engine light was on asking me to go to repair shop right away. They said that it was faulty throttle motor and it cost me $90 to replaced. On this Wednesday (10/8/2014), I was driving on the highway and it happened again. It can go 25 MPH at max. I was able to get to the shop and they said that it was engine wiring harness. It cost me another $200. Whole situation is very dangerous and this problem can kill me on the highway. I noticed same complains in web sites online.

I contacted BMW and they said that there was no recall on this matter. They said that they are not responsible because there was no recall. There is a NHTSA service bulletin. Is anybody know the real problem?
