This 2010 Cadillac CTS has been THE worst vehicle I’ve ever owned. Purchased new off the showroom floor and soon after the warranty expired I began having issues. Paid $40k for this vehicle and it went problem free for only about 45k miles, then sh*t started to happen. The main issue is this timing chain causing the car to lose power particularly on hills, small hills or big hills, and it’s finally crapped out altogether with 93k miles. My CADILLAC dealer, where I bought the price of sh*t, told me last year that it would cost me $2700, TO START he says with a smile, to fix the car. This was a year ago and we knew nothing of a “special warranty”. I put that in quotes because the local shop I took the car to recently told me it’s covered under this warranty so I had it towed a 2nd time in 2 days to Gwatney Chevrolet where the service manager Shane told us on the phone that they could fix it and that yes there is a special warranty, but then calls back in a few hours and says the diagnostic codes they got were not for the warrantied parts even though Parker Cadillac of Little Rock told me last year that’s exactly what the issues were, (but at that time Parker Cadillac didn’t mention the special warranty, they just wanted to get paid) and the local garage I took it to recently also said those codes were regarding the timing chain problems GM knows about. So, here we are years after the issue began and I can’t get any GM dealer to fix the warrantied items. It’s a double edge sword where GM says oh yeah we stand by these issues and will fix them as they are a defect with manufacturing, BUT no dealer will do the work so they lie because they'd rather not do the work then rely on a GM warranty. I’m told the reason is because GM doesn’t pay what it actually takes for these repairs and I’m also told nobody wants to touch this piece of sh*t for fear it will come back to their shop a short time later and then they’ll have to fix it for free. I'm frustrated, if anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them.
Update from Jul 30, 2019: This vehicle has a known issue that GM recognizes with a special warranty up 10 years and 120k miles, however none of the 2 GM dealers (Parker Cadillac and Gwatney Chevrolet) will recognize the warranty so I took it to a local auto service garage and they advised after diagnostics that the issue is in fact covered by GM’s special warranty. I’ve since had to purchase another vehicle and then had to pay Gwatney Chevrolet $2062.50 for the timing chain/belt and another $678.36 for the fuel pump. This process has been extremely stressful and painstaking not to mention expensive. This is why I will never buy a GM product again. I have documentation provided by the independent garage that the timing chain issue should be covered but could only be fixed by a GM dealer so I took it to Gwatney to be fixed. This financial hardship has been upsetting to say the least and I hope that this information will deter anyone thinking of buying any GM product with this rubber timing chain which I’m told is still being used in manufacturing.
Update from Jul 30, 2019: I’ve uploaded documents given to me by the independent garage as well as the bill for the charges to fix the issue’s. This warranty information came up as a result of the Vin number of the vehicle, meaning it’s covered for this common issue even if it does not explicitly say ‘2010’ in GM’s language of the problem associated with a wide range of GM’s many vehicles. The bill for repairs is there as well. Now, it’s odd that the independent garage simply put the vin in their diagnostic troubleshooting and came up with this “Special Warranty”, yet neither of the GM dealers came to the same conclusion. I’m sorry GM but the language in the special warranty says Timing Chain in black and white and the Timing Chain was the source of the issues with my vehicle so how can there be any dispute by these GM dealers. I’ve heard GM doesn’t pay all that it will cost to get these repairs done so dealerships are not inclined to follow the warranty process and customers are left to twist in the wind. I’ve never had any luck with GM vehicles so I’ll never buy another. But I deal with customers face to face on a daily basis and every time I see that these customers have a Cadillac or Acadia or any other GM vehicle on this list, I’m telling them about my issues. I tell them I spoke with a GM representative who told me they can only take the word of their people at the dealerships regarding warranty claims, which is to say GM does NOTHING! Take care everyone and don’t buy GM made junk...
