Astro Van 4.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 117,000 miles

In February the Astro van started bouncing as if shocks were broke. Once we were able to get under it and check it we found the bottom bracket for the shocks were broken. Called around to get new brackets to weld on, nobody has any, you have to buy the entire control arm. $ 400 later and we find that you have to get a special tool to remove the torchen ? bar, that costs $600. Nobody rents out this tool, its a dangerous job to remove it without the tool. This would be a lot simpler if they would just make the bracket and we could have it welded on. How much money do they think older people on Social Security have, especially if they are driving a 1998 van in 2014.
