Camaro LS V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

On May 8th my 2013 Chevrolet Camaro was having a problem when I started it. First off the damn thing was absolutely annoying as hell, and when I started this car the radio was glitching like the matrix and making my speakers pop whenever you would turn it on. And the AC would stop working also. This would happen if you came to an abrupt stop or a slow then hard stop. I called my dealer and told them what happened and they said "that is common with that car" - well what the hell if you know put out a recall... Anyways, they said it was a Radio Module OEM part I needed and they said IT WAS $300 so I said no and went on ebay for a used radio module and guess what? Only $40 - a straight up scam. Good luck any camaro owners 5th gen 😪

Radio/AC randomly pops on/off. Problem 1st occurred approx 3 years ago. We took our Camaro to the Jim Ellis Chevrolet dealer in Dallas, GA and they 'repaired' the problem for a nice fee of about $320. Fast forward, same issue happening again. I refuse to pay they another $300 for something that will potentially happen again in another 3 yrs..

Thru Google, Ive found that A LOT of Camaro owners have experienced this exact issue.. Has ANYONE found a 'fix' which doesn't involve another $300 payment to a dealership for something that'll start happening again so soon??

I will be attempting to disconnect the battery to reset the computer. Fingers crossed. This is ridiculous that I can't even enjoy music, a/c AND driving my car all at the same time.

I love my car if only chevrolet could tell me "ok replace this part and you are done". Have tried everything, disconnected battery, fuses, took radio out, unplugged face plate, replaced computer board... Right now I disconnected the face plate and it will not turn off anymore, but you have to operate the radio on the steering wheel and ac has to be at a certain speed before you disconnect the face plate. Need help from anybody. I heard if you change the radio it might work - someone did and the problem came back. HELP HELP HELP

Update from Oct 10, 2017: My radio kept turning on and off had this problem for a year. Disconnected the battery cable, check the fuses, replace the BCM 650$ the problem was still there. And finally replaced my radio so far everything works good. They replace the unit radio 300$ labor included and the radio itself 150$ total 450$. People just replace the radio it depends what radio you choose it will cost more. I just wanted to hear my music and play CD's.

I think everyone has pretty much said it all about this Camaro issue. The radio cuts of initially as you're driving as if it had a mind of its own. At first it only happened a few times then it increased more often to the point where my radio did not turn on at all. Heater turns on and off of as well. I hear a small noise coming from my steering column as if it was a short circuit. I've checked fuses but no luck. If anyone has found a fix please let everyone know. My brother will check it out to see if it's actually a software issue in the next few days and will be back with to update everyone.

Update from Apr 2, 2017: So nothing had worked for my issue, I tried fuses, resetting the battery, & even had checked codes with a scanner and no luck. I debated if I should buy an aftermarket stereo since the dash kit can cost as much as a recieiver itself. So I decided to buy a factory radio to replace and see if that would work. As soon as I replaced it I was finally able to hear the blinking signal tone while driving. Unfortunatly the radio is still locked so I'll have to wait and see how much Chevy will charge me to unlock it since I tried. But the screen and Bluetooth worked fine.

Chevrolet needs to do a recall these radios because this is a common issue and not only is it annoying but the fact that you can't hear the radio is big too.

Camaro V6

  • Automatic transmission

When I started the car there was a loud pop, after that the radio system would blink on and off, with static sound through the speakers. The problem has progressively gotten worse, First The a/c unit began to turn on and off , then the blinkers no longer make a noise when on.. and now its to the point the radio doesn't work. The a/c is off more than on , no sound from blinkers and the ignition beeping is gone. who knows what else is next to go. I have reset the radio by unplugging the battery , and i have checked all fuses, no luck..... Hope someone can tell me what to do since apparently Chevy doesn't have a clue or they just wanna keep guessing to make more money.

Camaro LS V6

  • 70,000 miles

My radio, A/C unit will lose power randomly the following describes the problem as it happened in progression. Initially I would get a popping sound when turning on the car, this has happened for a while of owning the vehicle, I thought it was from my auxiliary Bluetooth connected to play music so I didn't think much of it until the popping began to get louder. The sound bothered me but then this happened...loud popping through speakers and loss of radio and power to the consol. It would shut down and turn back on repeatedly.

Then, when turning the car on it stopped allowing the radio to work. Turning the car off, opening the doors and turning the car back on would reset the radio and it would come back on.

Then going to work one morning I had loud static in the speakers, turning the radio off would eliminate the static. Then I used my blinker, loud static began emitting through the speakers in correlation with the blinker, when the turn was complete and blinker shut off a constant static would emit from speakers again. I would have to shut off the radio again to turn the static off.

Then, I started noticing that my radio clock would reset during the overnight hours when the car wasn't running and sitting in my driveway.

Earlier this week I was driving home and the radio console would shut down like clock work driving home. But then when I used my blinkers I heard no sound. I wasn't sure if my blinkers were working at that moment, I got home to check and they were.

I haven't taken it to the dealer yet as I am trying to research the problem first before getting raped by dealership fees trying to find a fix. I fear the symptoms would show up when I take it in. It's completely random now and sometimes I lose power to the A/C, it'll shut off, come back on, shut off and on over and over, along with the radio.

Things that aggravate the symptoms or that appear to spur them. Hands free talking, Texas heat when driving home at 95+ heat and only after driving over 15-20 miles. Still trying to diagnose if breaking and/or using the blinker is conducive to spurring the problem. I doubt breaking does because that only comes from me using my blinker nearing a turn, which is why I think the blinker has a connection to it since the previous problems I've had from using the blinker in the past.

If anyone has ever experienced this problem or knows a solution please let me know. I have cleaned off my negative battery terminal already and made sure that my ground wire had a clean solid connection to the car. Symptoms still happen after checking that box off.

Thanks if advance, Ken
