The contact stated that after taking the vehicle into the dealer for NHTSA recall campaign id number: 10V073000 (steering: Electronic power assists system) the vehicle started making a clicking sound whenever he made a left turn. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was taken to the dealer four times before it was determined that the steering column needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was not experiencing the problem until after the recall repairs. The vehicle did not have a problem before the recall repair was done. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who refused to provide any assistance since they do not believed the failure was cause by the recall repairs. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where they were unable to detect a problem. The VIN was unavailable.

The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph the vehicle began drifting to the right. The contact gained control of the vehicle and applied the brakes. While applying the brakes the steering wheel locked causing the vehicle to drift back to the right and roll over. The contact was not injured during the crash and was able to exit the vehicle. The vehicle was destroyed. Upon purchasing the vehicle the dealer informed the contact the vehicle had a recall for the steering electric power assist system (10V073000) and was repaired. The check engine light come on and the contact took the vehicle to the dealer. When a diagnostic test was performed the results showed that the vehicle had not been repaired under the recall. The dealer ordered the part; however, it would take seven to ten business days to arrive. The contact stated that the dealer gave false information about the vehicle that could have resulted in a fatality. The failure mileage was 31,000.
