Colorado Z71 V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 29,000 miles

Bought the car in February, 2017 with under 30k miles. Key problem started happening right away. Dealership I bought car from "Richard K Automotive" advised me to take it to nearest GMC store (They weren't the closest) so I took it to Sitton Buick GMC. They tried cleaning area, worked all of 24 hours, tried a few more things, to eventually they replaced the entire system where the key goes in. This made the occurrences slow down as far as how many times they happen and it never happened for longer than 2 or 3 minutes so I stuck it out, because other than the key issue I love my truck.

Winter 2018 it started getting worse and worse (Seems like colder weather effects it) so I called the dealership (Again). Of course they tell me the key ignition system only had 1 year warranty. I told them that the system never fixed anything anyway and I don't think that was the problem. So they (Meaning Sitton Buick) took another look at it. Now they are saying they believe its the shifter but they aren't 100% sure. Guy quoted me $491!!! I told them I was not paying that amount when it was never fixed in the first place and clearly this is a problem with a lot of 2015 Chevy Colorados. I noticed a complaint on here that stated they had the shifter replaced and that didn't work either.

Update from Feb 8, 2019: I ended up having to pay the $491 due to key getting stuck and not coming out until my battery died TWICE!! So far its working but I called warranty place and they just kept giving me the runaround, after I was stuck in a store parking lot I knew I had to get the issue resolved as soon as possible. My advice, don't buy these so called "smart trucks", way too many electrical system issues.

cannot remove key after turning truck off

Three trips to the dealership to have this resolved. They claim they can't re-create the situation. When I, the consumer, provided them with the TSB from Chevrolet they finally did one fix. That did not correct the problem. We are at a loss. We consider the staff at the dealership to be the experts since it is their product. Yet it remains unresolved. Why should we spend money to have a fix done on a faulty product? Chevrolet identified this as an issue back in 2015 but the dealership seems to know nothing about it. We just want the truck repaired!!!! We have already been down to one vehicle, had the truck in for repairs for days, spent out of pocket and still have the issue. We just want Chevrolet to do the right thing and fix the problem.
