I too did not bother to test drive the new Colorado. I simply ordered mine and waited many long months before the glorious day finally arrived. All afternoon at the dealership finalizing paperwork was rewarded by a very annoying squeak coming from the steering wheel or steering column. I thought that since this was a new truck, that the leather on the steering wheel or plastic had to get "broken in" and didn't give it much more thought even though it was painfully evident when moving.

Months went by and no matter what temperature it was outside or inside the truck, whether I was turning or driving straight, on a street or highway, or going fast or slow, the squeak was still there. Fed up with the squeak, I took the truck back to the dealership and had them look at it. I drove down the street with the new car manager to hear him say, "Wow, that's really noticeable." Back at the dealership, the service department concluded that it must be either a squeaky firewall seal or a defective clock spring in the steering wheel. After another trip back to the dealership, the clock spring was installed all to have the squeak still remain. The tech did, however, receive a bulletin from GM regarding the issue after the service had been completed. GM engineering has evidently identified the problem as a (and I am paraphrasing here) slightly too large (height-wise) clock spring within the steering wheel. The plastic airbag cover continuously rubs the clock spring or component covering said clock spring, causing the squeaking sound when the truck is moving. The bulletin advised that there is no fix for the issue at this time, nor is there any projected date for a recall notice. So for those of us that are lucky enough to have this issue, guess we will have to put up with a continuous squeak or just blare the radio all of the time. Outstanding...
