Transmision in this vehicle is the worst, and could be dangerous for novice drivers.I've read plaged problems with these vehicles and transmissions after I purchased it.Transmision jerky, shutters. You go to take off and it switches in to low gears too soon and causes the vehicle to vibrate.Sometimes slips between 4th and 5th gear. Also when giving a little bit of throttle sometimes vehicle acts like your flooring it, in rainy or icy weather can cause back wheels to spin causing fish tailing.Had it happen couple times.I've read torque converter problems, and some under a campaign have been replaced. This vehicle has low mileage for a 2015 (83,000)

Seems dangerous with brakes and traction control and stability. It happens while I am on the road would hate to have myself or someone else hurt if there is something wrong.

Back in early 2018 prior to my bumper to bumper expiring, I had the check power steering and stabilitrak come on on dic. I took it to dealer but they stated could not find any issues. This keeps happening but everytime I turn truck off and then back on as stated in owner's manual, problem goes away. More recent past week, it has been happenings again but more frequent to which at times, turning off and waiting then turning back on, the problem persists. This problem happens various times (while driving city, highway, as I'm turning vehicle on for first time in the day, while backing up, while parking). I have mentioned and taken in to dealer or other places but no codes are found and problem cannot be duplicated.

The transmission is slipping between 3rd and 4th gear. Takes a few seconds to actually get into gear. When brought back to the dealership they were able to replica the problem. When it was brought up to be repaired with GM they reported the issue as normal and to make sure the transmission fluid is warmed up prior to drive. Although it still slipping on a truck under 40K miles. They are refusing to fix the issue as saying it is a normal issue in this and many other motors. I never had a vehicle slip out of gear and take 2 to 3 seconds revving up and then popping into gear. This issue needs to be looked at as it can cause problems and dangerous driving conditions for someone driving on the highway ro freeway.

Colorado

  • 17,900 miles
This vehicle was purchased October 31, 2016 as a certified pre owned with 17,900 miles on the odometer. From day one, the transmission (automatic V6) has shifted poorly. It is sluggish on acceleration and requires pushing the pedal to the floor to get it to upshift. And when it finally does, it skips a gear and raises the rpms to over 4,000. When coasting down in incline, the tansmission will arbitrarily downshift itself and will occasionally skip a gear, again causing excessive rpms. Neither the dealer nor GM has a remedy for this problem, although the dealer has admitted that there have been several complaints for the same issue from other people who have purchased Colorados. It appears to have all the classic signs of a bad design! hopefully, GM will offer a fix to the problem before someone gets seriously hurt or worse!

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. After parking the vehicle, the key would not rotate completely to shut the vehicle off nor could the key be removed from the ignition switch. The driver had to jiggle or reposition the shift lever in order to remove the key from the ignition switch. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer (H & H Chevrolet, 730 E. king St., shippensburg, pa) where it was diagnosed that the transmission control lever knob was not fully seated during manufacturing of the vehicle and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 15,000.

Purchased 2015 Colorado July 2015.we had it in for oil changes & a few times regarding hesitation of acceleration. Service techs did not type complaint when in for oil change only when brought in specifically for acceleration issue. They stated it was our fault we did not read the work order.it is not my job to read a work order it's the service techs job to enter every complaint or issue addressed by the customer. The last service was when I spoke to sales manager who set me up with service manager & I was assured me a tech would drive vehicle for a week to and from dealership approx 40 miles per day so they could diagnose the issues.I had advised issue is intermittent; the reason they could never duplicate while in for service. They made sure to state it was running to manufacturer specs. They drove it 10 miles not 40 miles a day for the 7 days they had it.then said exactly that it was running to manufacturer specs. Of course it did, you did not do what you promised wasting my time & kept my vehicle for 7 days just to pacify me. I told the sales manager what happened who I purchased the 2015 Colorado & my 2014 camaro that I would never buy another Chevy product as they would not stand by this issue, their customer or the lemon law. Today my husband is in austin Texas with his truck in the shop again as truck now has a service engine light on; of course still has the acceleration issues as that was never addressed or fixed.we have to pay $800 to fix engine issues on a 2015 vehicle, this time no warranty even though we thought we were given a 75K warranty when we purchased the vehicle. This is the only thing I can think of doing prior to retaining an attorney to fight for the lemon law for a vehicle we bought for 40K. We have had issues with this vehicle since purchase & I am hoping I will get a call from someone from the NHTSA regarding this complaint!

My 2015 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 4X4 has a serious, violent vibration at highway speed. The dealership has had the vehicle for going on 40 days. The truck had approximately 24-25000 miles on it and while on vacation in Texas while driving the truck on interstate 10 where the speed limit is 80 mph the truck began shaking and vibrating violently. The truck has been at the dealership since September 08, they have replaced the upper right control arm, road force balanced the tires twp times, alignment two times, replaced the tires, replaced the tires and wheels with some from a 2017 Colorado, rebuilt the rear differential, now the rear differential has been replaced with a new factory differential, and the truck still has a serious, violent vibration that makes the entire truck shake. It feels like the truck is going to come apart. Upon speaking with GM in detroit, they tell me they have elevated my concern to their engineering department, whereas the dealership has told me they have been working with GM engineers to fix the truck. The mechanics who have been working on it are concerned with the vibration as well. GM cannot tell me when or if they can fix this truck or, what is truly wrong with it. I truly believe it is a serious safety issue that the builders of the truck cannot fix it. Maybe a recall is necessary to figure out why this GM truck shakes and vibrates so badly.

When driving my 2015 Colorado Z71 4X4 with the V6, in city traffic, you try to speed up slightly so you depress the throttle and the truck doesn't go any faster, then the truck will downshift two gears, lurch forward at high RPM's nearly striking the vehicle in front of you. The engine also spark knocks when up shifting in all gears. Took it to dealership and was told, GM engineers were aware of the problem and working on it, it appears they fixed it with the 2017 Colorado as they put a different engine and 8 speed transmission in the new trucks. If there was nothing wrong with the original power plant and transmission why would they change especially since the new engine transmission doesn't get any better mileage. Also, when driving at highway speed, 75 mph the truck downshifts on it's own, the RPM's go almost to redline and if someones in back of you, you almost get rear ended. GM says that the transmission is learning, really at 17000 miles its still learning. There is a significant problem with the shift pattern and timing with the engine on this truck. The spark knock and transmission issues have been going on since the truck was new.

When slowing down and then accelerating afterward while in traffic the vehicle does not down shift to the correct gear. The vehicle will then sputter and will be very sluggish to accelerate. This happens while in motion as well as from a complete stop. I was nearly rear ended while making a right turn into traffic and the truck would not find the correct gear and thus would not accelerate enough to get out of the way from oncoming traffic. Several times I thought that the truck was going to kill because it was sputtering so much when in the incorrect gear. Truck also wobbles more than usual when turning and makes a popping sound in a turn. Also, radio acts like it has a mind of its own. Navigation will go haywire as if someone is touching the screen, but no one is touching it. Radio will change channels on its own and volume will increase and decrease without any driver input.

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. While driving uphill, the vehicle began to jerk forward independently without warning. During the failure, the transmission jumped in and out of gear. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The dealer stated that the vehicle could not be repaired because no failure codes were generated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. Chevrolet assigned an investigator to diagnose the vehicle, but the failure could be duplicated. The contact mentioned that the recurrence of the failure caused her extreme neck pain. The failure mileage was approximately 28,000.....updated 06/23/

Colorado

  • 2,000 miles
While stopped and trying to turn left on a busy highway I was hit from behind by a driver who did not see me until it was to late. I saw him in my rear view mirror, however, barreling down at me at a high rate of speed. I hit the gas to the floor trying to get away from him but my 2015 V6 Colorado hesitated for a 1/2 second or 1 second, I don't know. It seemed like forever. It then kicked in and we got about 100' before he slammed into the right rear bumper. The impact drove the Colorado forward about 10' and killed the engine. My wife and I both hit the back of our seats and bounced forward and the seat belts caught us. Just prior to the hit, I was leaning forward and thus bounced hard against the seat and then bounced hard against the seat belts; seemingly in a very small fraction of a second. It been a year now and I still have whiplash symptoms. My wife was already leaning back against her seat and apparently did not suffer any whiplash. The car that hit me was totaled but the 80 year old occupant was just shaken up. He left about 30' of skid marks and was trying to get around me to the right. If the Colorado had not hesitated, I am confident he would missed me. The hit was so hard because he hit the the Colorado's tow bar which did not bend much thus transmitting most of the force to the rest of the vehicle. For a fraction of a second, acceleration was intense. I complained to the local GM dealer but they told me the hesitation was designed into the vehicle and they would not "fix" it.

Colorado has a great deal of hesitation at low speed when acceleration is applied. Vehicle lurches, shrugs, spark knocks, has delayed throttle response....seems to "chug" until a heavy throttle is applied, then the vehicle "jumps" to a gear/RPM. Very dangerous when trying to accelerate normally and "get out of the way" of other traffic or just climb a slight incline. Chevrolet dealership says this is "normal". this may be normal for Chevrolet, but it certainly is not acceptable for the consumer that wants a responsive throttle when acceleration is required...... this has been an on-going issue with the truck since it was purchased new in April 2015.
