Cruze LS

  • Automatic transmission
  • 122,236 miles

2012 Chevy Cruze that has a problem where the radio will go off, then the warning lights in the dash will light up just before the steering and brakes quit working. This happens at different times and under different circumstances. It will pull to different directions some of the time.

Cruze LE 1.4L

  • Manual transmission
  • 147,000 miles

I have a 2012 chevy cruze in which the electric power steering shuts down when it gets hot. For example in stop and go traffic with the ac on. Then when it turns off it resorts to manual steering until the traffic starts moving and it cools down then it would start working again. The car went to the dealer. They told me the rack was bad. Well they installed new rack which took a week and half to fix. Picked up the car drove it 30 miles steering stopped again. Took it back . It spent two more days. The dealer came back and said it was negative battery cable. They put new cable on. Picked up car drove 3 blocks steering went out again. Took the car back. The dealer did not know how to fix it. So they called manufacturer they determined that it was a brake module. I was told and charged 640 for it. Picked up car and went 3 miles, the steering quit again. This now has been 4 weeks. The rack was installed under a special service program. The dealer paid for 10 days for rental car but not any more. Now we have no rental and no car. I was just told the first rack that was just installed was no good. Chevy will not help with this problem of no car. It looks like it might be another week.

Cruze LS 1.8L V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 75,000 miles

Car mileage starting at 70,000, while driving the steering wheel started to move by itself while driving straight. I knew it was the rack and pinion, but was waiting for it to start failing. The malfunction was not caused by hard driving or any accidents, just manufacture defect. Noticed that when first starting the car, and then pulling out of the parking lot, the wheel would not turn. Checked the connections, no loose wiring. The mechanic checked the car, and same symptoms happened, the steering wheel would not turn. The part cost about $900, labor $250, and had to take to dealer to get it programmed again, and that cost $150. Since it's electric power steering, needs to go to Chevy dealership, nowhere else. Already tried different shops, and were a waste of time. The actual mileage of replacement was just a little over 75,000.

Update from Apr 28, 2019: at 80,000 mileage took care to dealer for something else and was told that the car has power steering recall. Had it replaced with them brand new system

power steering stopped working while driving

The Stability Track Control and Service Traction Control messages have both happened to me now a few times. The first time I had the Service Traction Control was yesterday. (8-02-2016) It's scary because the radio resets and the power steering goes out. I have a 9 year old daughter and she's terrified as well. I wish they would figure this out already. I called the dealer once and like most people write online about this issue they didn't know what it could be and they didn't have a car I could use to get back and forth to work while they checked it out so I haven't taken to the dealer yet. The issue comes and goes. It could go away for months but always comes back. I keep checking online to see if they finally found a fix for this issue and I still haven't found anything. So I'm assuming once someone dies in a bad accident or numerous people do then maybe they will take it more seriously? I'm a single Mom and I can't afford to not have a car or have a problem that I have to pay lots of $ to fix when this obviously needs to be a recall when this many people are having the issue and it affects your steering!?!?! HELP PLS!?!?!?!?

Cruze

  • Automatic transmission
  • 30,000 miles

My son and I purchased a 2012 Chevy Cruze in May of this year. The car did not exhibit any problems, was very well kept. In September he was taking my Grandson home and was returning back home through a residential area speed limit 25 when the car's steering froze up and the brakes did the same, needless to say that he ended up going over a curb missed a tree by 2 inches and hit a brick fence, all air bags deployed and hit him in the face, arm, legs etc. The car was totaled. I am thankful that my Grandson was not in the car. That would have traumatized him. This true!!!
