Please see/reference complaint under cooling system repair. The solution to the overheating also corrected the interior heating problem. Air pockets were in the radiator line as a result of a hair line leak in the head gasket. Sealant was used to stop leak, air pockets removed and now the car has interior heat and it is not overheating, leaving me stranded on the side of the road. Praise the Lord.

My Equinox is blowing cold air took it to the dealer again after having the blower motor, blower resistor and pigtail for resistor replaced.

What they said is I need the heater core flushed, coolant flush and thermostat the cost $535 after paying them to me what was wrong.

GM knows there is a problem with the heating system please this is not how you treat your customers.

I have had my Equinox for just over two years. Two months after I bought it the alternator went out in a snowstorm on the road, fortunately almost to my destination...could have been much worse.. I have not had any problem since, and I do love my Equinox.....but...now...in 29 degree weather my heater has suddenly stopped working. Was fine when I parked it....got back in and no heat. Blower works....I checked the fuse..not the fuse...had two people suggest coolant....plenty of coolant, but mix was weak, so I paid to have the radiator flushed....not the problem...still no heat...weather called for snow and sleet this morning and again Thursday. .I am scared to death that my wind sheild will ice over. It was suggested that it could be thermostat...only two bolts to remove, but was quoted $300...next best price $258.... Now I see that this is a known issue with the Equinox?? If they tell me it is going to cost over $500 I don't know what I will do.....pray for Spring to come soon? I have absolutely no faith in my dealership... Suggestions?

My heater just stopped blowing out hot air, I remember I was dropping the kids off at school and couldn't figure out why the car was not warming up. Living in Florida you wouldn't think it that important but we have some cold days (cold to us Floridians). I have to bring blankets for the kids to stay warm. I look like I belong up north driving to work. Gloves, heavy jacket, scarfs and a blanket on my lap. If you think about it, driving with a blanket on your lap isn't the safest. GM needs to get this issue fixed. It is definitely a safety issue, especially for those living up north and young and older people. After doing the research to how much it would cost to get fixed, I will have to leave it the way it is. I very seriously doubt I will ever by a Chevy vehicle again, especially if they don't get this fixed. My husband had to have the ignition problem fixed with out HHR.

Hey Chevy, how about quality more then quantity, we have loved one we want to keep safe!

After reading all the complaints about this heat/ac problem, I do not understand why GM has not posted a recall on this. In these sub-zero temperatures having a vehicle that won't even defrost a windshield is a major problem, not to mention there is absolutely no way to keep freezing rain off the windshield either. As a low income, single wage earner, I just do not have the dollars it will take to fix this problem. I originally paid to have the system flushed, not once but twice, 2 thermostat changes, and as I know now, it was wasted money as that had no effect on the problem. Isn't there some way to get this taken care of by GM. It seems this is a common problem with this vehicle. I have always owned a GM product, but I'm wondering if that's a good idea any more.

I have children and therefore cannot drive my vehicle in the winter because of having no heat. My windshield frosts up in the inside. In order to get a slight amount of heat to happen I have to start the vehicle (not auto start) and let it run for about an hour. Minnesota experiences extreme cold/wind chill temperatures that is very dangerous.

Had to have my 2006 Chevrolet Equinox heater fixed twice now due to no heat. the part was $47 and labour $889 because they had to take out the dash to get to the problem. It was the heater door that is held on by two plastic pieces. I sent an email to Chev and also spoke to someone by phone with the question of why this has not been a recall and why are they putting the same part back on made of plastic?

I had someone call and say if it happens again let them know. I responded to tell them this is now the second time. I also told them that there are many complaints on line of this same problem. I was told that they can't go by what is on line and it would have been best for others to email them. They said record would be made and if ever they did a recall I could get reimbursed. I would suggest everyone contact Chevrolet head office or the president. There seems to be a lot of people that have gone through the same problem.

It's been 2 weeks and they still have it . Heater core thermostat this is a big problem and GM WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR BAD MECHANISM . This is BS

A little over a month ago, I began experiencing an issue with my 2006 Chevy Equinox. The heat stopped working. The fan would work and blow air - but no heat. I took my vehicle to a GM dealership to have them look at the issue. Immediately upon telling them the symptoms, they diagnosed my vehicle without even looking at it. The service rep told me that it was "known issue" with the Equinox, that almost 4 out of 5 vehicles of that make/model/year have the same problem. He told me the good news was that the part to fix it was only $65, but the bad news was that the labor was $1000. I was told that the hinge on the temperature blend door" was broken at the actuator and that the entire dash assembly would have to be removed to get to the broken part. I took my vehicle to another dealership and had almost the same answer - although, to their credit, they did actually look at the vehicle before diagnosing it.

Both of these GM/Chevy dealerships shook their heads and almost laughed at me - saying that it was a "known issue". I decided that I shouldn't have to pay $1000 to fix a "known issue", so I called Chevy Customer Service. Keep in mind that my vehicle is sitting at the dealership during all this. After more than a week, Chevy tells me that my warranty expired (I was 20k miles over the warranty) and that there is nothing they can do about it. They convince the dealership to knock 10% off my bill. Gee... thanks

I just purchased this damn car 2 days ago, and the f%^&ing heat doesn't work. I haven't even drove the car for the last past 2 days because its cold as hell in the city of Chicago!!!!!!! I called the place where I purchased the car and they are giving me the runarounds. Sht my first fu@king car note hasn't even been paid yet. This is some BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!! I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A LOVER OF CHEVY CARS BUT THIS MUTHAF*CKIN EQUINOX has definitely put a sour taste in my mouth. GM really needs to recall this part because its causing a lot of unnecessary headache.

My heater is not functioning on my 2006 Chevy Equinox. It blows cool air, yet the AC works just fine. After five minutes of online searching it seems that this is a widespread problem for the 2006 Chevy Equinox.

It is the first of November and the weather is rapidly getting colder. I do not have $1,000 a month before Christmas to have this repair done. It is the responsibility of GM to recognize this defect and recall the cars for replacement. The issue goes beyond feeling cold in the car, it is a safety issue regarding the lack of heat to defog and defrost the car in the dead of winter. We have been contemplating replacing the car with a minivan.

This is probably going to be the straw that breaks the camel's back, and we will NOT be purchasing any more GM cars. Our 1998 Mazda 626 has had far fewer problems, and that car has 180,000+ miles!

The vehicle was 6 years olds when the issue was discovered. The dealer claims it will cost approx. $1,100 to fix. The safety issue with this needs to be addressed by GM. Not only does the defrost and heat not work properly, but the smell and obvious fumes of glycol from the heater core us not healthy for my family. There have been several complaints regarding this.GM, you are putting families lives in jeopardy. Heater cores should not beak after 6 years.
