Equinox LS 2.4L

Okay first off, I'm a woman! I just wanted to get that out of the way. Because I'm sure there's going to be something I try to explain about my truck and it's not going to be 100% man talk terms.

Anyway... My 2007 Chevy equinox believe it or not has been pretty dependable. I've had her for 3 years now, and I've only had a few problems that I fixed myself. But this time I'm not thinking I'm going to be able to fix it. She uses a lot of oil, she has since I bought her. I've had to occasionally put in a half a quart of oil in her in between oil changes sometimes. She started tapping a little bit about a year ago. and like I said earlier I'm a woman so everybody's first thought was that I didn't know how to check my own oil. Damn woman haters!! Anywho last month I came home from work, pulled up in my driveway and she was knocking real bad. First thought I had was I threw a rod 😣 so My boyfriend and I tore down the motor one night to find one of the folks that are the guides to the rods had snapped. "which are made of crap heavy duty plastic. So replaced all the rods, gasket and what have ya. Got all the parts replaced put the motor back together and she still made the same damn noise!!! We were told a piston was bad, then was told valve was bad, then was told HA... You need a whole new motor. 🤪 Are they kidding?????? I can't afford that crap!!! Not right now. Today I came across that lawsuit about the 2010 to 2017 I think is what it said, having an excessive amount of oil consumption leading to a Knocking motor or timing belt failure or whatever. Well it's just kind of weird because I have the exact same problem as those trucks are having but they're stating its for the 2010 and up. Equinox and GMC well anyway needless to say my vehicle has been sitting on the side of my house since last month, because of this issue. And at this moment I'm royally screwed till I can get her fixed or replaced the motor.

Thanks for listening to me complain.

Equinox LT 3.4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 149,000 miles

It has always consumed at least a quart before oil changes since I got it. But I decided to treat it to semi synthetic oil the last time. The equinox gobbled all of the oil by the time the % reading said 46% oil life remaining. I decided to check the oil in mid winter after noticing a tapping sound in the engine when I stepped on the gas. The oil wasn't even touching the dipstick!! I have had the engine checked for leaks and there is nothing that would do that kind of loss. Engine may be failing. If you have one of these vehicles you MUST check the oil and I wouldn't recommend synthetic After going thru this I wouldn't even recommend maintaining it beautifully if its just going to fail on you secretly in the end. :( Sad
