Equinox LS

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

We had just purchased this vehicle in hopes of having a larger family car, and since the purchase it has been nothing but problem after problem. Shorty after purchasing our AC stopped working. We originally were told it just needed a recharge so we bought the self recharge kit and that did not fix the solution. Took it into the Chevy dealer and was told that our whole AC compressor went out and needed to be replaced and quoted us almost $1,800 to repair. Since then we have not been able to replace it and have been dying with the heat because we were out of warranty. I HATE THIS CAR.

Equinox LT1 V6

Got the vehicle in to a local shop where they verified a compressor failure and estimated the repair at $1,000. The mechanic said most compressors if they fail are out at 150,000 plus miles and not this soon. Part of the problem with this fix is the "hard to get to" location of the compressor.

I know one of the recalls on this vehicle included work on the HVAC system due to programming in the center module of the HVAC unit, blah - blah, whatever the recall was. My curiosity was the potential for some relationship between the recall fix and early AC compressor failure. $1,000 is huge money and it comes at a time when the car is also due for timing belt maintenance, brake maintenance, car tire replacement etc. Now your talking a combined total of $3,000 plus to get car back in safe working order.

Not good Mr. Chevy. I need some help in the form of labor & parts discounting so I can get this work completed and be a Mr. Happy Customer again. Think about this, I'm currently trying to decide between a 2016 Mustang GT and the 2016 Camaro SS. If I get screwed on this Equinox deal I'll be highly tempted to go with the Ford.

Equinox LS 2.4L 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 47,224 miles

The standard warranty for an A/C Compressor on an Equinox is apparently only 3 years. My vehicle is 4 years old. Fail. $1000(ish). I don't have the final bill yet, because the geniuses at the dealership ordered the wrong part and my overnight fix is now a 6 day fix. Oh, but they can arrange a rental car at my expense. Gee, thanks guys! What great service.

The A/C is barely used - maybe 3 months a year. I would hate to see how this part performs in Arizona! How can GM sell such a piece of garbage? I read online that many people have the same issue at about the same mileage. You think there would be a recall? Of course not. How would they make any money in their service department if they recalled all the garbage components on their vehicles. I think it's all part of the sales strategy - sell you guaranteed piece of $#%!, then charge you $125/hr to fix it after three years.

My next car will be an import.
