Equinox LT AWD 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,000 miles

I got into my Equinox one afternoon, turned the key and after starting, it stalled. This happened twice. There was an emission sensor on but my mechanic had just repaired a rear oil leak ($388) and advised he just needed to reset the sensor. I took my husband's Merc that afternoon.

The next day, my husband attempted to drive 2 miles to the gym but the Equinox would not exceed 23 mph. Low Engine Power light and stabilititrac warning came on. The day I attempted to drive it to my mechanic's shop, and it stalled just 100 yards from my house. No power/electronics at all. I waited 10 minutes and it started, but I could only go 25 mph and then it stalled again. I was afraid it would stall in traffic or on the highway, so I pulled over and called for a tow.

Upon inspection, my mechanic identified the hi-pressure fuel pump as not working. There is a recall for this item, but my VIN was not included. Today my mechanic called to say when he removed the fuel pump, he discovered that the lobe on the cam had worn off. The top of the motor would need to be torn down, the timing chain would need replaced which involves tensioners. There are two cam phasers and the intake cam would need to be replaced, at an estimate of approximately $2500. I bought this vehicle in 2014 and paid $18k. Besides the recall for massive oil consumption, this is the third major issue/expense I've had w/ this vehicle. I believe I bought a lemon. My friend may be more accurate when he called it a POS.

Equinox LT AWD 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 127,000 miles

I've owned this 2010 Chevy Equinox for about 6 years. The problem I'm dealing with now is that when I first turn the vehicle on and start driving, the car will lose power after a few seconds. It stays on but I'm unable to accelerate no matter how hard I press the pedal. After a few seconds of the car stuttering, it will regain power and I'll be able to accelerate normally. Also, my MPG was gone way down. I've had the car for 6 years, never changed my driving style and I used to get 24MPG. Now, I'm about 15-16MPG. Took the car to the dealership but they were unable to replicate the problem. It's odd because it happens to me every single time I start the car. I'm unsure what to do now. Anyone else had this problem?

Equinox

  • Automatic transmission
  • 82,000 miles

First the timing chain had to be replaced with just over 80,000 miles, cost was $1440. 3 months later the speed control sensor need replaced at a cost of $800. I was a GM vehicle buyer my entire life, from what I'm reading these problems are occurring on a tremendous # of 2010 Equinox vehicles at around 80000 miles. Theses should be place on a recall as loss of engine power could cause a major accident, Probably never buy another GM vehicle again!
