Windshield wipers quit working, causing me to not be able to see, and I tried to pull off the road but I ran into a curb and tore my front bumper off and some other issues. I will never buy another Chevy Equinox as long as I live! These cars are dangerous and should be recalled due to sooo many issues... They go through oil like its gas, no wipers, and now blown engine... just always having issues, ever since I bought it.

windshield wipers stopped working windshield wipers stopped working

So I'm driving on busy highway in Chicago area in torrential rainstorm with wipers on a full speed, when I hear a soft clunk and wipers just stopped working. The wipers stop in the middle of windshield. I am now in full blown panic as I can see nothing, as the rain is so bad and cars are whizzing by me as I stick my HEAD OUT OF THE WINDOW to try and see to pull off the highway. CAN NOT SEE A THING LOOKING THRU THE WINDSHIELD.

I finally get off the road. This was as dangerous situation as I have ever been in, trying to pull over on a highway when cars are speeding by you, when you absolutely can not see. I tried replacing the fuse, which is under the hood and nothing worked. Had to wait for it to quit raining just so I could get to an exit where I could park car. Very dangerous to be parked along a highway when there is such a significant rainfall.

Called a mechanic who investigated and found that the plastic linkage that connects linkage and motor for wipers to blades failed. Upon investigating found out that they have recalled this part in Canada for 1.6 million cars. But not in the US. Many Equinox owners in US have experienced this same problem. It's always the same scenario, torrential rain and highway speeds and complete wiper failure and terrifying attempt to drive to safety when you absolutely can not see anything. I guess someone has to die before GM does anything. Filed a report with NHTSA and I urge anyone else who has wiper failure to report this. It appears that NHTSA may be investigating this particular issue so please file a complaint to NHTSA.

When driving home during a rainstorm and the wipers just quit. Had to drive home without wipers - it was very heavy rain, and I'm lucky I didn't cause a wreck or hurt someone. When I replace the window transmission brackets, engineering should have fixed the issue easy if they did a recall by drilling out the ball and putting a pin in it.

They sent me a letter that there was a recall on the same matter. The next week, it stopped working and it was raining very hard. They told me the mileage was too high and they can't fix it. If it has a recall and I'm still making payments, they should fix it.

My 2014 Equinox had wiper failure in the middle of a bad storm, which was very scary, not to mention unsafe. Fortunately because of the severity of the storm everyone was driving slow which gave me an opportunity to pull over. I messed with the handle and was able to get them going again and took it to the dealer the next day. This has happened a couple times since then and now the wipers have stopped completely. I called Chevy (knowing the warranty on this was expired) hoping that they would include the 2014 in the recall from 2013 to no avail.

I'm mostly disappointed that because of the danger in something like this happening that Chevy was not more helpful with this.

The wipers ball joints coming loose or breaking. This is the second time this has happened, the first time my friend fixed, the part was about $130 and then now we have to fix them again. Thankfully we bought the part under warranty.

I was driving in I-90 from Cleveland to Boston. It has been raining in several areas along the highway and I have been using the windshield wipers without issue. When I came into one area with very heavy rain, I switched the wipers to high and my windshield wipers completely stopped working immediately. I have to pull off the highway with hazards and it was terrifying because it could have resulted for car accident. I brought it to the mechanic and they were able to identify the issue and replaced the wiper transmission. I have read numerous complaints on this same issue and they have recalled for model 2013 and older. My car is 2014 model and wondered why they did not include this model ?

I was driving home from work during a thunderstorm. While driving on the highway my windshield wipers completely stopped working. I immediately had to pull over (while almost wrecking with another car due lack of visibility without my wipers.) It was terrifying and easily could have resulted in a multiple car accident, causing injuries or death. Once I brought it to my mechanic he was able to identify the ball joint that had popped right out place causing my wipers to detach from the wiper motor.

I have read numerous complaints on this same issue on other sites.
