After having a deer run in front of my last car we found our 2009 HHR. We drove it off the lot about 1:30pm on the 2nd and on way my home after work that night I had my side airbags go off on their own. I tried to press the brakes and had no brakes. I slid down the ramp and over a median causing my driver side wheel to snap almost all the way off. If instead of a median, it was a cliff or rail I could of been badly hurt. Now dealing with insurance to get this issue done with.

Several months ago, the air bag light would not come on when someone was in the passenger seat. Then it began working again. Took the vehicle in in November for the ignition and power steering recalls. Yesterday was driving at about 45 miles an hour and the passenger side airbag inflated sounding like we had been shot or rock thrown at car. Checked everything. No indication of any damage to vehicle. Went to talk to dealer today. They had never heard of this happening?????? Said it might be a shorted wire and to have the car towed to them. Feel like this is electrical because back when the indicator light malfunctioned, the battery drained. Recharged the battery and it has been fine. Don't know if I trust the dealer to deal with this as they were not very knowledgeable.
