I own a 2004 Chevy Impala 3.8L with approx 179,000 milew.my complaint is in relation to the passlock III system and the overwhelming amount of "no start" complaints from all the different models of GM car owners across the board with this faulty anti-theft system. I live right smack in the heart of the South in a very small town in Tennessee and keep in mind, it is really hot and humidity is ridiculous this time of year. I picked up my daughter at a friends house after work, about 5:25 pm last thurday, 9/5/19, and my car died as I'm driving down the road, like the engine jus shut off for no reason at all, I had filled my tank a few days prior and knew that was not the problem. My first thought was to put in neutral before losing much speed and tried to crank several times before hitting my flashers because there were a few cars behind me on a 2 lane road with very little shoulder room to pull over off road. I popped the good to see if I could see or maybe even smell anything that may have caused this problem. I'm making sure my battery cables aren't loose, no fluids leaking or spewing and luckily a state trooper was passing thru and stopped to see if I needed help and turned his lights on so traffic would know there were problems and could slowly go around. To my surprise, after explaining what happened, he said he had this problem before with his daughters car, 2002 Impala, and told me to try the 10 minute reset procedure and sure enough, after that 10 minute reset, she fired right home and was able to get home, home had he not come along and already known bout this faulty system prior, my daughter and I would have been stuck for some time on the side of a 2 lane highway in the early September humidity most likely waiting for a tow. Upon researching after, found GM are aware of this problem and should have to fix it, been neglected long enough! thank you!

Takata recall my car has been jerking every time it would switches gears. I didn't really think it was an issue until I researched and I seen all of people had the same problems. They all said the same thing it was the "transmission" well every time I drive I would be at a stop sign or at a red light. And when I get my go ahead my could would not move unless I put the pedal to the floor, even then my car will jerk back and peel out. Im afraid to drive my car, I think one day it might stop moving.

Did you know the recall on the ignition key fix had only a one year warranty" they filled the slot with two plastic halves that snapped together and kept the key ring centered so it would not turn off the ignition if you hit a bump. My key came apart and I can not get it to snap back together. The dealer says the warranty is expired and suggested I glue them on the key. Has this happened to any one else"

I have had many problems with my car starting to due a security glitch. For the past few years many times my car will not start because it technically thinks I'm trying to break into my own car. The security light starts blinking and when I turn the ignition it doesn't start. I have to turn the key to 'on' on the ignition and sit for about 10 or sometimes 20 minutes until the car starts. This has been very frustrating situation for me and depending on the situation I'm in it also could be dangerous. I've seen many complaints online about this problem with Chevy Impala in general.

I have been experiencing a traction control problem. When I make sharp turns the service traction system light comes on, after this light comes on it pulls to the right and makes it hard to stop and even slides sometimes. I have replaced all speed sensors and replaced the wires and the problem is still reoccuring.

I WENT TO THE DEALER AND I WAS TOLD MY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WAS ALL MESSED UP AND THEY CHARGED ME 500 PLUS DOLLARS AND STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM.THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO A LOCKSMITH I DID THAT BEFORE THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. NOW THE DEALER WANTS ANOTHER 500 PLUS TO PUT IN A NEW IGNITION. I'M NEVER DOING ANOTHER RECALL. MY CAR WAS FINE UNTIL THEN I'VE HAD THE CAR SINCE 2006 AND IT'S BEEN KEPT UP BY FIRESTONE. MY SON IS IN THE ARMY AND IT WAS THE FIRST CAR HE EVER BROUGHT AND IT WAS A GREAT CAR. THE DEALER ALSO DID THE 2ND RECALL WHILE THEY HAD IT NOW I'M TOLD IT'S LEAKING OIL. SO DISAPPOINTED [XXX]. The only recall I was able to find out was for the ignition, . my transmission just went out 11/19/2015, it will not switch into gear, it starts just fine no check engine light but left me stranded. Turned the car off and when I started it again it drove just fine, so I slowly drove it home. I don't get on the highway no more because it lacks power the get up is not there mind you yes I have 225K miles on it but I have had about 10 trouble codes and I managed to get rid of them all when I cleaned the tps, aic, and map sensor new egr valve, oil change tune up transmission flush all has been done this year and still on the highway it struggles, I did have one code that popped up 0420 so at this point I have been thinkin to just replace the catalytic converter when I get my taxes, but the problem is just getting worse and worse, so then I am thinking its the fuel pump, I mean my alternator is fine, I know I am sick of the security light always coming on, my left blinker only works in the day time at night never which is the weirdest thing, my windshield blades only work on the fastest setting, in the winter when it rains or snows my doors when we get inside to lock them the lock and unlock and the panel says door ajar when there is no door ajar, it will drive just fine as it nothing was ever wrong. Inconsistent and whats even weird is now the check engine light wont even come on after my transmission failed me in the middle of the road you would think the computer was able to record something. Once tranny fixd I will get the ignition recall fixed originally a loud noise was coming from engine like a screeching noise so I figured it was the alternator now that noise is gone but the minute I felt it wasn't the tranny, my car at the light would not go at all until I turned it off and back on. Please help

When I go to start my car I have no lights and no sign of turning over. Then I wait 10 to 20 minutes and I get some lights on the dash, then finally it will start. (this was happening June & July of 2015) now, I have lights, it just doesn't want to turn over. If it does try to turn over, it doesn't stay running. Wait 5 to 20 minutes then it will start. It usually happens after I have been driving then stop somewhere for a while, then when I go to leave I have the issues. But there have been times when I first start the car after its been sitting for a long period of time like over night it won't start this issue has begun around August of 2015 took to two different garages, one independent the other a Chevy dealership. Neither want do anything because there are no codes, because of wasting money on parts that may not be needed, which I appreciate, but yet is frustrating. When I google my issue online there are many who are having the same issues. There are many different ideas on what to replace but no specifics. Seems like many are having issues with dealerships....stating Chevy needs to look into the problem and have a recall of some sort. I can't afford to be replacing parts just to see if it's the problem. I have already paid $42 to the dealership to drive my car all day to see if it would do the problem. Online ideas are stating as simple as replace the gas tank cap to electrical system failure. I had similar issues back in 6/2009, code was read and they replaced the passlock sensor, then had to replace it again in 7/2010

The car started making a loud screeching noise, haven't been able to drive the car. The car would start for a couple of days and all of a sudden the battery was dead and its a new battery absolutely nothing when the key was turned. Had it jumped car finally started and the screeching was loud and cloud of smoke started. Turned it off wouldn't start again. I believe it is coming from the serpentine pulley.

When I try to start my car, it will not start. I have to wait 10 minutes and then try again. It is getting worse and I have had to wait up until one hour to be able to start car. I have taken it to the dealership where I purchased it at on three separate occasions to try to get the problem resolved and they have not fixed it. Sometimes, I can go a week without this happening and at other times, it happens to me several times in a day. I have been late to work countless times due to this and been inconvenienced. It is scary because I am not sure if it could be an electrical issue or what else could happen as a result of this defect. I'm not sure if the problem could be the key, ignition switch or something even more detailed.

1) tried to slow car down. Car would not turn nor halt. Ended up hitting the vehicle in front of me. Restored it 100%. 2) a year later, had 3 brand new rack and pinion's replaced in one month. Had the vehicle checked out. The A-frame is in excellent shape and so is the area surrounding the rack and pinon. Have pictures and mechanics as proof. 3) called the Chevy company & was told that the car was manufactured in Wisconsin. They claim they saw no reason to help with the rack & pinion as those cars were recall-free. 4) car leans towards oncoming traffic at times (this started after each rack and pinion was replaced). There is also a 2 O'clock and 10 O'clock dead zone in the steering column. Steering used to feel a bit normal. It was not like this until I had a new rack and pinion put on. Twice (in between) the boot would excessively leak (as did the original from Chevy). 5) when I turn the wheel out of the driveway, the car makes kick drumming grinding sounds. Was told this was normal. It is irritating though. 6) the car didn't even hit it's 5th year (being new) before it started to rust paint off the top of its roof. I live where there is no snow or coast, and extremely little ice. 7) the check engine light never goes off. Had it checked. Was told it was fine. 8) was driving right next to a cop going down a steep hill when the speedometer stuck at 10 mph. I crossed my fingers that I wasn't speeding since I kept my speed next to the officer. Replaced. 9) combo turning signal & cruise broke off the steering for no reason during a turn. Replaced. 10) locks me out off & on for no reason. 11) this car is my baby as it was one of the last thing I got that was my mother's before she died. It is also my first car that has seen me through (and still) my college years. It is very sentimental to me for those reasons. My dream is to keep this car even when it's a classic.

Our car, and thousands of others have failing instrument clusters due to a faulty step motor. This is the same part that has caused a recall for other GM vehicles, and yet nothing for this model. I have researched many repair blogs, and websites and find that this is indeed a very common problem. Speedometer reads wildly inaccurate at times, close on other occasions, not at all most of the time now. The temperature guage suddenly shoots up, causing my wife to pull to the side of the road and pop the hood, only to find that the car is not overly hot. Never really sure when we may run out of gas... why is it that the recall does not apply to all cars and trucks to have received this faulty part" I really cannot find the reasoning to that. Chevrolet wants over 600 dollars to fix a part proven to be faulty from the factory!! there are lots of people making a living at repairing this one problem. Does it not seem unsafe to sell a car without properly functioning guages?" please step up and force a recall across the board for these motors!!!

While driving on a highway at 65 mph, I noticed the speedometer needle dropping slowly which it continued to do until it rested at zero. I continued driving at the speed of traffic (65 mph) and all the while the speedometer continued to register "0." I panicked and if I had not been using a gps Navigator that told me what rate of speed I was travelling at, god knows what would have happened. I have been on several blogs and see that this problem is very common in the 2004 Chevrolet Impala. Chevrolet should institute a recall as this is extremely dangerous, and is also costly to repair. It seems to afflict all the models at around 40,000 miles. After I stopped to get gasoline, and filled up the tank, the problem seemed to correct itself, but according to the blogs with other owner comments, I have no confidence that this won't happen again without notice. Please see that Chevrolet recalls this model and makes the repair at no charge. Thank you.

Speedometer stops tracking speed. It will stop at a random speed and not return to zero upon stopping the car. When I start driving again it will start tracking the speed from the incorrect point that it stopped at previously and then repeat the fault stopping at a totally different mph point. Also it will just freeze at random speeds. At times it will go all the way to the highest point on the speedometer and freeze. I would think this is a very high priority on the list of safety items. There should be a recall.
