Impala 3.9L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 41,000 miles

The is engine is defective by design and should be recalled for a real solution at complete cost of General Motors. My vehicles engine goes through 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles. I bought this vehicle a year ago. Previously I owned a 2001 Impala with 3.8 and at 200,000 miles never used oil between changes. Go figure that one! Everyone here should contact General Motors for a solution.

Impala LTZ 3.9L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 64,000 miles

WE PURCHASED THIS CAR USED IN 2014 AND HAVE BEEN HAPPY WITH IT EXCEPT FOR THE OIL CONSUMPTION. I HAVE OWNED MANY MAKES AND STYLES OF VEHICLES IN MY LIFE, BUT THE OIL USE IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. I USE 1 TO ONE AND A HALF QUARTS OF OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. IT DOESN'T LEAK AND IT DOESN'T BURN OIL. WHERE IS IT GOING? MY WIFE AND I REALLY LIKE THE CAR OTHERWISE. I HAVE NEVER HAD A CAR WITH THIS OIL USE. I HAVE A 1995 EXPLORER THAT NEVER USES OIL EVEN THOUGH IT HAS ALMOST 300K MILES ON IT. MY OTHER VEHICLE IS A 1995 CHEVY PICKUP THAT DOESN'T USE OIL AND HAS 89K ON IT. WHAT IS THE DEAL?

Impala LS 3.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 35,000 miles

The Chevy 2008 Impala is a good car but there is a huge problem with heavy oil consumption. This started at 35k miles now I'm at 70 k, takes a quart every 1000 miles. This is insane, I've done mechanical work for 25 years, this is not normal.

I REPEAT, THIS IS NOT NORMAL, 3 QUARTS IN 3000 MILES. GENERAL MOTORS NEEDS TO GET A GRIP AND TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM. THERE'S SEVERAL COMPLAINTS WITH THIS ENGINE. IF GM DOES NOTHING THEY WILL JUST HURT THEM SELVES BECAUSE PEOPLE WILL NOT BUY NO MORE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Impala LT 3500 V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 32,000 miles

I was excited to buy a Chevy Product so in 2007 I bought a New 2008 Chevy Impala. I have been faithful in changing the oil every 4000 miles and maintaining my car overall.

In June 2010 I was on a road trip with my Daughter to Lafayette IN. to pick up a friend. On our way back home I noticed that my low oil warning light came on! It was 3Qts. low! How can this be? I have seen no oil spots where I was parked and there has never been any oil spots in my drive, so where is it going? I shouldn't be having this problem with a new car!!

I Put oil in and that was that......UNTIL my next oil change 2000 miles later, it was another 2qts. low. I add oil (1-2qts) every 2000 miles This is ridiculous! I feel like I have a 1980's Clunker!!!! My Car now has 91462 miles on it and I still add oil to it between changes! I will never by another Chevy Product!!! A Friend who is a mechanic got online after hearing me complain about this problem and told me about this site. But really what good Is writing here do Since CHEVY Doesn't seem to Care!!!!!

I had my oil changed regularly and noticed on a trip my low oil light came on. Checked my oil and it was 3 quarts low. This has happened 3 times so far and can find no evidence of a oil leak Will be trading off this car before the engine goes.

Impala LS 3.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,000 miles

Bought a Chevy Impala new in '08. I have been faithful in changing the oil and maintaining car overall. Last Sept. I noticed that my low oil warning light was coming on! It was 2 Qts. low!! WHAT??!?!? Put oil in and that was that......UNTIL this past Dec. Checked oil - was 2 Qts. low again?!!! Had the oil changed last Sat and was 1/2 Qt low. This is ridiculous. The car is still under power train warranty. Am in the process of doing an oil consumption test. I'm sure I won't be disappointed. While browsing on internet, I noticed that a ring and piston problem has been showing up. Also, the oil tends to Congeal (sp?) in the upper cylinder area?? All I know is, this is not going to be cheap and GM better pony up and fix this! Anyone have any experience in fixing this issue??

Impala

  • Automatic transmission
  • 109,000 miles

I bought my Impala 2008 around winter time 2009. I never seemed to have any issues until the last half year to year. My car burns thru oil so fast. It burns about one quart every 750 miles. I find this ridiculous. I never had a car that was this bad. If someone tells me that this is normal, I will hit them upside the head. Seriously, I can't afford or trust to take it in just anywhere and the only reliable garage is super busy and I need my car for work. Does anyone have a solution and an approximate price for that solution? I never see oil where my car is parked and I do not see blue smoke coming out of the exhaust. I just had a tune up not that long ago and I was told there was no noticeable issues then. I just want to find a few solutions to report in order to cut time off when taking it in to get fixed.

Impala LT 3.9L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 49,831 miles

BOUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK IN MAY 2012. THIS OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM STARTED A FEW MONTHS BACK. A FEW TIMES THERE WAS NO OIL ON THE DIPSTICK. JUST THE OTHER DAY MY WIFE DROVE THE CAR TO NEW YORK CITY FROM FELTS MILLS NY, AN AVERAGE OF 340 MILES APPROX. WHEN SHE HAVE GOTTEN THERE AND SHE CHECKED THE OIL AND NOTICED ONCE AGAIN NO OIL ON THE DIP STICK. MIND YOU AN OIL CHANGE WAS DONE AT THE DEALER AT 48170 MILES. SHE HAD TO ADD 2.5 QUARTS OF OIL. ALSO SHE REALIZED THERE WAS NO COOLANT AND ADDED ALMOST A GALLON OF COOLANT. THIS IS MY THIRD TIME I HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE AND THE ONLY THING THE DEALER SHIP CAN SAY ALL WE CAN DO AN OIL CHANGE AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. BUT OBVIOUSLY ITS JUST HAPPENING OVER AND OVER AND NOW WITH THE COOLANT ISSUE. I LOVE THE CAR ITS JUST THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED BEFORE I GET SCREWED WHEN MY POWER TRAN WARRANTY ENDS IN FEB 2013. RIGHT NOW I'M A DEPLOYED SOLDIER AND I WISH I WAS HOME TO HANDLE THIS ISSUE. BY THE WAY THE DEALERSHIP IS DAVIDSON CHEVROLET IN WATERTOWN NY OFF OF ROUTE 11. I WILL ACCEPT ALL HELP TO GET THIS ISSUE RESOLVED AND FINALLY SLEEP ON THIS ISSUE. THANK YOU FOR LISTENING.

Update from Mar 15, 2013: STILL HAVING ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE. MY WIFE BROUGHT THE IMPALA IN TODAY. THEY TOLD HER TO BRING IT IN 1000 MILES FOR AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. THEY JUST SAID THAT THEY DONT FIND NO LEAKS AGAIN AND NOW THEY TELLING HER TO COME BACK IN 2 WEEKS. THIS IS JUST A RUN AROUND AND IM STARTING TO GET TIRED OF THIS PRETTY SOON IM GETTING LAWYERS TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE SINCE THIS IS LIKE THE SIXTH TIME I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS.

Impala LTZ V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 20,000 miles

I have done 4 oil consumption tests. I have lost 1. 5 quarts whithin about 2500 miles. hey say this is acceptable. What a load of crap!!. I used to drive other high milage GM cars for 10,000 miles without an oil change. I have had three generations of family work for Chevy, I too thought buy American. Help save an American company. I give up! I had a Buick and the antifreeze ate through all of the engine gaskets. That was a huge expensive mess. Now my 2008 Chevy Impala has oil just vanish. As much as I regret saying it I will buy a foreign car next time. My dad has a Pontiac Grandprix with 40,000 miles he is also having oil consumtion problems. I am done with GM cars.

The wife and I were ready for a new car. Ameican auto companies are in dump! Need bail-out money from the goverment. As proud americans that suport this fine country, we made sure to buy ameican products. So buying a Chevy Impala was our way to help our felloow Ameicans and this geat nation! Our new Impala seems to burn 1.5 quarts every 2300 miles. When taking it back to the dealer, I found that this is totally acceptable according to the Chevy Tects. One service writer even came off as this is standard on all cars.I just don't recall the salesman ever mentioning this when we were signing the dotted line. Lets do another oil consumtion test. HEY IDIOTS!!! MY CARS BURNING OIL!!!I' IT'S A NEW CAR!!!! WHAT/WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!!! I AM PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!!! ARE YOU????
