problem #59

Dec 182002

Malibu 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 74,000 miles
Brake pads and rotors replaced in Sept, 2002 and again in Dec, 2002. Brakes still scrub and squeal when braking. This is a problem that General Motors I have been told knows about. Why hasn't there been a recall. This makes for a bad reputation. I will never buy another Malibu and maybe not even a Chevrolet product.

problem #58

Dec 172002

Malibu 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 10,000 miles
Vehicle has had the brake rotors turned twice and replaced once due to excessive vibration while braking. Consider the brakes system unsafe. The ac control head has been replaced. The upper strut mounts have been replaced to try and cure front end noise. Front wheel hub and bearing have been replaced due to noise. Engine is excessively noisy on startup with clicking and tapping that the dealer calls normal. Turn signals failed. Power window is intermittent. Three spark plug wires have failed. Radiator cap has failed. Intake manifold gasket failed. Car ruins tires. Car is in for a check engine light right now (12-17-02) Chevrolet will not do anything (ie:take the car back, replace it, etc.) how many problems do you have to have.

While driving the brakes were squeaking and vibrating excessively. The vehicle was checked by the dealer who advised the consumer that the Chevrolet Malibu brake components have to be replaced every 15000-20000 miles. The consumer stated that another repair facility repaired the brakes. The consumer didn't want parts that would fail every 15 to 25K miles.

problem #48

Feb 252000

Malibu

  • miles
The brakes don't stop properly. The brakes have been changed 3 times. The rotors have been turned once and changed once. The blinkers don't work 95% of the time and the emergency flashers never work properly. The ac settings change on their own as you are driving the car. This causes the compressor to turn on and off, eventually causing premature compressor failure. The vehicle has died 4 times as we were driving down the road, once almost getting us killed as we were turning in front of a truck. Also, the brakes have almost caused us to be in a wreck. We have almost been rear ended because of the turn signal failure. The manufacturer and the dealership has had many times to fix this vehicle with no success. To this point, we have not been involved in a motor vehicle accident. However, is it going to take me or my family being killed to get something done with this vehicle?

problem #45

Mar 012002

(reported on)

Malibu

  • miles
The rotors on this car have been replaced 4 times and are ready to be replaced again and it has been less than 4K miles this time. The dealer has admitted to me that there is a problem with the rotors for the Malibu' but they don't know how to fix them. I have been to several web sites that detail complaints about Malibu rotors and everyone is reporting rotor failure and replacement before they reach 15000 miles. This is the second Malibu I have owned that had this problem. Please investigate, the time, money and hassle that GM is causing over this is ruining an otherwise nice car.
