My wife's 2000 Chevrolet Malibu started having an issue where her blinkers were intermittent. I found out that there was a recall for this problem for her model year and model, but when I called GM, I was told that her VIN was not part of the recall. This was despite the fact that it did have the same exact problem of intermittent blinker activity. (recall 03V327000) so I went to my local dealership, paid the $30 for a new hazard switch (part num: 22594146), came home, took the bezel off her dash, replaced the switch, and the problem was fixed. There has been no problem since. I believe that GM should open the recall to include a greater amount of vehicles with this problem. I would at least like to get refunded for buying the new part, and I have the old part of that is needed.

As reading over the website I notice the 2000 Malibu is pretty much a lemon. I have had to replace the radio, pretty much every gasket in the engine, the fuel pump, brakes front and rear, now my turn signals don't work, just found out about the recall I have to check to see if I qualify, my engine knocks on cold starts, and it practically losses all power when I go to accelerate.. and top it off my transmision slips.. this vehicle needs to be looked into.. and something needs to be done about it.

The turn signals on my 2000 Chevrolet Malibu have operated intermittently since shortly after I purchased the car used in March of 2003. The turn signals and the hazard lights become completely inoperative at random times while driving. Sometimes they will be inoperative for a few seconds, and sometimes it can be hours. Overall I would estimate that the turn signals only function about 50% of the time. When the turn signals are not functioning it is extremely difficult and stressful to maneuver through heavy traffic. I have often times upset other drivers after switching lanes without having a functioning turn signal. When the problem first started to occur (more than a year ago) I returned the car to the dealership and told them of the problem. The mechanics checked the turn signal bulbs, and after finding no problems told me that it was probably a loose bulb so it should be fixed. The next day the problem continued, and so I returned to the dealer. This time they took the car into the shop to check it over more carefully. After a day in the shop I was told that they did not find any problems and that during a test drive the blinkers operating correctly. I took the car home, and as usual the turn signals continued to work intermittently. After having to deal with this problem for over a year now, I believe the problem is in the hazard switch (mounted in the dash). Often times when the turn signals (and hazards) quit working I can press the hazard switch several times and eventually they will beginning functioning again. I have also found that on warm and humid days, the turn signals will not work at all until the air conditioning has thoroughly cooled and lowered the humidity of the interior of the car. In the near future I plan on trading the car in (and passing on the problem to someone else) for a different vehicle (not a Chevrolet) that will most likely have turn signals that operate 100% of the time.

We unfortunately own a 2000 Chevy Malibu. We have already replaced the rotors several times for going out of round. We have also replaced the fuel pump at less then 50,000 miles at the cost of $728. The air conditioner pops on and off on its own not cooling for the most part. The turn signals are nonfunctional and our VIN number is not included in the recall although it should be. Then there is the transmission slipping and the coolant leaking and the car overheating we are told this is a manifold intake gasket and will cost around $800 to fix. The newest problem is the factory installed radio tuner is burned out and now we have to replace the radio costing yet another $100 dollars or so this car has nickel and dimed us too much. After looking over your site I found these to be numerous complaints on the same year and model. I feel this car was a lemon across the board not just ours but, all 2000 Malibu's. please look into these cars on a whole they were very badly manufactured and we all deserve some compensation for it.
