I have a problem with my turn signals but while researching I found a recall notice for 2000-2001 Chevy Malibu. I contacted Chevy (victor wood) and they refused to fix the problem and give me a written statement on why they would not fix it. They only gave me a file number 71-659486155 for reference. The problem I am having is identical to the recall notice. The 5 digit GM recall number is 03043 and the summary is: Summary: Certain passenger vehicles have hazard warning switches that may experience solder joint cracking caused by rapid temperature transitions and the soldering process. If solder joint cracking occurs and results in an open circuit, the turn signals/hazard lamps become intermittent or inoperative. Consequence: When the turn signals are inoperative, the driver cannot use them to signal intent to turn that could result in a crash. Remedy: Dealers will replace the hazard warning switch. Owner notification began on February 5, 2004. Owners should contact Chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438, Pontiac at 1-800-620-7668, or Oldsmobile at 1-800-630-6537.

1999 Malibu V6 with 70,000 miles. Turn signals have become erratic. I replaced the fuse, and it worked, but again at times, they don't work, and at times, they do. No real pattern. Sometimes, they work in the morning, sometimes in the afternoon, some times, when the engine is cold, and sometimes warmed up.

2000 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated the hazard warning signals and turn signals stopped working. First it was intermittent, and then they just stopped. The contact found a recall online. But, this vehicle was not part of this recall due to VIN. This problem started two months ago. The dealership replaced the hazard switch, the wires, and the connector. This fixed the problem.

About two months ago there was a problem with the turn signals. The turn signals would intermittently work. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer but was corrected by the consumer's husband who determined that there was a problem with the hazard turn signal switch. He researched this through a repair manual and corrected the problem by replacing the switch. There had been no further problems since the replacement. NHTSA recall campaign#03V327000 was issued involving the turn signals, but the consumer's vehicle was not included due to the VIN. (11/29/05)

Turn indicators would function intermittently. Fortunately, I was able to avoid having a serious accident; but, many close calls. In the fall of 2002, I had the vehicle repaired. In 2003 it was brought to my attention that GM was going to have a recall campaign in the 1st quarter of 2004; however, my VIN is not in the range of vehicles to be repaired.
