Malibu LS 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 183,000 miles

I'm a single mother of a special needs child. My car MUST be dependable! Who has the money to put in a fuel pump and still pay all the bills and provide for child? This had caused several financial problems for me, and it's still not fixed. Who would have thought the fuel pump would have gone already! It started to act up months ago, but still don't have the money to fix! What now? Grrr!

Malibu LS 3.5L

  • 70,000 miles

OMG!!! This problem was horrendous. I ran out of gas twice because of it. I was also told by a place that they would have to replace the the whole fuel line and would cost over $700. I found a better place who just replaced the sensor and it has been working really well.

Malibu LS 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 106,000 miles

I have had my 2004 Chevy Malibu LS since 2006 with about 30,000 miles, the ignition and starter were replaced while it was still under warranty. These did not fix the intermittent start issues. If I try to start it it turns over but does not start, then the second time it will usually start after a pause. If not I have given it gas while starting the third time and it will start. This has been so annoying. There have been a couple of times where I had to leave it and come back later and it will start. Mechanics keep telling me that they have to wait until it completely fails, which will be nice to be stranded somewhere, as they can't diagnose it since it doesn't throw any codes on the computer usually. Recently I had the fuel pump replaced as it was cutting out and dying recently (it threw the fuel pump code on the computer while they were looking at it) and it runs better but still runs crappy. It goes back to the repair shop tomorrow. I am with the guy that said i won't buy a Malibu again. I have also had the temp gauge die one day on a hot day and was fine the next when it was cooler. The transmission was replaced under warranty as it was leaking too. This car has been a big mistake. I am leaning towards a Nissan or Toyota next.

Malibu 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 46,440 miles

Fuel module/fuel pump replacement. This car at 46k miles should not be requiring an $1100 repair to the fuel system. Symptoms were obvious gasoline smell when outside the vehicle after shutting the engine off and then into the cabin.

Malibu 2.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 34,000 miles

My son owns this Malibu and is getting terrible fuel mileage. I am not there to help him with it and troubleshooting over the phone is a pain. He smelled fuel and looked under the car to see he has a fuel leak under the motor. The shop told him the fuel pump is bad and they want $800.00 to fix. I thought this car had an electrical fuel pump in the tank. Can anyone assist with this answer?

Of course the dealership that I had my car towed to and sold me an an extended warranty, said the my warranty just expired at the the fuel pump and rental car would not be covered! On top of that ... the service personnel inferred that I was lying!
