Malibu LS 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 220,000 miles

one day on my way home from the store I was approaching a light at a slight bend, as I came closer, the light changed and it was to shot to stop so I decided to firewall the acceleration pedal and immediately after I did the steering wheel became so heavy that I could hardly steer... Almost as soon as I did that I heard the "ding, ding, ding" in rapid succession with a note in the car information cluster in the center stack... it said "power steering" and if course I was shocked by this so I tried it again in a straight line and nothing happened.. I contacted GM and they said there is nothing they can do as of right now and the part wont be in until a few months. so I Mentioned to the young man if Chevy would provide me with a loaner car.. and they said yes but you can only have it for 5 days.. and i thought to myself... what happens if tomorrow i go out of town and while I'm driving down the road and the power steering fails and I get hurt because of a car accident.. then who is to blame? the least GM could do would be to give me a safe form of transportation until the parts come in but oh well... any who I have discovered that the only time is really fails is hard acceleration (1/2 throttle and beyond) but it is really annoying and stupid because when I have to pull out quickly in front of traffic and the power steering fails it can be hard to control but it is somewhat manageable you just have to really man handle it.. ~ another thing I might mention is when turning under hard acceleration, the power steering will fail and then come back without warning and then fail again. ~ also the steering wheel shakes when the power steering fails.

~ I'm just really hoping that GM will contact me soon on part availability

I might like to add that the car is great. It was bought with 16 thousand miles on it and as far as engine transmission wise it is perfect even with over 220 thousand miles on it now. A lot of people criticize the engine for being unrefined but I actually like the way it sound with a kind of rustic, whoop when it kicks down and screems all the way to 6k, it can really tear ass away from stop lights as well and I love showing people how a family sedan can kick ass. ~ I'm still averaging 29 mpg with mostly highway miles. ~ I only use synthetic blend oil

Very scary- as soon as i start the car the steering is fine. I pull out in traffic and then I have no control over it. Sometimes I can turn the car off and on and it will reset but not today. It's very dangerous and my job requires me to travel.

THIS SUCKS! I never received a notice indicating that the power steering column had to be replaced and now I'm over the miles that they required and they will probably make me pay for the column myself!

Malibu LT V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 81,500 miles

While pressing on the gas pedal for a little more speed to pass a car or speed up my steering wheel jerks to the straight position and my dash lights flash on and off with a ding noise.. the steering wheel jerks so f*cking hard it feels like its going to rip my damn hands off. sorry for the foul language but this is very dangerous. I have never owned a vehicle that's done this. If it were to do this on a curve it could result in some serious problems!!!!

Malibu LX V6

while making turn at any speed i could hear a clunking noise coming from the steering wheel. the steering wheel has locked up on me making it hard to steer. i took the car that i had bought used and had for 12day to the auto shop with 68,000miles on it because i became scared to drive it. they told me with this year and model that its know for steering column problems. this time im lucky it was just bought and under a warranty, but im now seeing that it will happen again because GM is doing nothing to updated this problem.i see hundreds of complaints for the same issue on the web site, and even more on other sites.I'm a single mother and i need a reliable car not a money pit that could hurt or kill someone.

It is very unfortunate for us who believed in our American comp. and bought in the propaganda that they would not screw us. If the power steering becomes an issue of any sort of danger or life threatening issue while using that comp. product they should and hopefully with everyone's help they will be responsible not just because ITS A SAFETY DEFECT but because they should. I will not pay out of pocket for this because i do not have the money for it.

While driving my new car and that happened i did not know what or even if that was something they knew about and clearly they did and do but give us a crumb and say to bad, WTF. I am sorry that you are driving our car and it threatens your life but thanks for the money. Someone help! this is wrong and we deserve what is right.
