S-10 Pickup 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 48,000 miles

At 48,000 miles the water pump went out, and I had the dealer replace it. At 52,000 miles the core went out and I had the dealer replace it. Both together cost me a total of $600.

The truck was total junk. The exhaust manifold cracked and had to be replaced twice in the space of 100,000 miles. I had to replace the heater blower motor and the windshield wiper motor. The dash lights went out at 85,000 miles. The truck never idled right, and the service manager ignored my complaints until I gave up. One day after 12 years, I was tracing a burned wire on the firewall and clipped a plastic tie holding a bundle of hoses and wires, and the truck, coughed, sputtered, almost died then smoothed out and idled as it should have brand new. A vacuum hose had been squeezed partially closed for 12 years.

At 100,000 miles the driver door hinge bolt broke. At 129,000 miles the transmission was going out, the body was rusted out, and I had been though 4 sets of brakes and shocks, and two exhausts. The truck was worth less than $500. I basically gave it to the Toyota dealer in trade on a 2002 Echo. The 2002 Echo? 180,000 miles, 3-40 mpg, and not one single repair issue. The Toyota factory battery lasted 11 years. The Toyota exhaust was solid until the lady in a GM Tahoe rear ended her and totaled the Echo March 2014 at 185,000 miles. GM will never get me back. We were looking to get 100,000 miles out of that Echo. The S-10 was junk at 129,000 miles. I now, deeply resent airhead women driving Tahoes.

The Chevy dealer? I dented my oil pan...My fault! Took it to the dealer. They charged me for a new oil pan. It leaked. They repaired the leak. It leaked again. They repaired it again. The leak stopped. about 50,000 miles later it started to leak again. I started looking closer. They had used the old oil pan! They just kept putting more sealer in one area of the gasket. Poor product and terrible service. I chose GM from 1962 to 2002. They started letting me down in the early 80s. Loyalty held me until 2002.

Toyota acted like they couldn't get a Yaris for us, or didn't want to sell us one, or something. Showed us everything but a Yaris, so we bought a Nissan Versa Hatchback, the closest thing we could find to our old Echo. I will see how that goes. We wanted another brand new Toyota Echo.
