problem #2

Dec 292006

S-10 Pickup LX 2.2L

  • Manual transmission
  • 79,000 miles

Changed converter then 5 months later it sounded like a hole in muffler, Come to find out the flex hose from the manifold broke. This was due to me changing converter and jerking on the manifold pipe not knowing how fragile this exhaust pipe was.

(reported on)

S-10 Pickup 2.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 127,000 miles

I received a letter from Chevrolet informing me of an extended warranty covering my catalytic converter due to an engineering flaw. I was never happy with the S-10 performance but since it had just over 100,000 miles when I purchased it along with it being a four cylinder I didn't give it much thought. At least not until I suddenly started losing what little power there was and my gas mileage dropped to under 10 miles per gallon. I took my truck and the letter to the local dealer whom informed me that this warranty was only good to 120,000 miles. By that time I had racked up 120,000 and even though I knew then this was an issue for me since my purchase I contacted Chevrolet thinking they would consider my dilemma. Not! I was left having to either pay $850.00 for this engineering flaw, not drive the vehicle, or eliminate the converter altogether. Lets just say I did what I was forced into by Chevrolet.
