I have never owned a vehicle that has had the clear coat start peeling off after 6 years. It started with a spot on the cab roof and then I noticed spots all over the vehicle that were peeling. I have tried to find out why it started doing this, but no one can give me an answer. Chevrolet dealer was no help. I keep my vehicles clean and serviced and expect them to last. Any others seen this problem?
I have always owned a Chevy or two for over 30 years and now after this problem and engine problems with our Chevy Van, I can honestly say that my next vehicle, which I will be purchasing within the week, will not be a GM.

I have a 1999 Chevy Silverado LS Z71. In the spring we started noticing small bubbles on the roof and on the doors right under the windows. Talked to numerous GM Dealers/Service Departments will very little help. Let me start by saying this truck has 28,000 original miles on it, kept under a cover, washed once a week weather it's driven or not and waxed twice every two weeks. I called GM directly and spoke with a Mr. Olsen, not once did he say "what can we do to help" instead he preached about UV Radiation. What he doesn't realize is that I replaced my hood with a cowl induction hood in 2001 and the original hood has been kept in my basement and that is also peeling so how can UV Radiation penatrate my basement. This seems to be a common problem on all GM's since it's happened to me I have been noticing a lot of GM vehicles with the clear coat falling off. My work truck is a 1994 Chevy Suburban and there is no longer any clear coat on that truck. I called different wax companies and as soon as I say "my clear coat is falling off" they say "you must own a GM". My issue is why does everyone else state that GM has a problem with their clear coat but GM won't own up to it. I am just really ticked off because I keep our vehicles perfect and spend lots of money on waxes and polishes each year. It is just very annoying. We also own a 2007 Hummer H3 and sometimes you just think why bother washing and waxing it when it's going to have to be repainted in 10 years. I think GM should step up to the plate and admit their problem and if your vehicle is kept in great condition then they should at least meet you half way on repainting your vehicle.

I can't belive Chevy would sell a truck and know this problem exists without standing behind their product. The clear coat is peeling on roof, hood, and top of bed rails

Paint began to bubble and peel on roof and then above doors. Now 2015, the hood paint is also failing. Value of truck should be higher with only 60,000 miles on it but not so much with bad paint. Trade in value is not high enough to spend around $2,000 on new paint. I am stuck with driving a dirty looking rig since I cannot get enough for it on a trade in for a new one.
