Silverado LS 8.1L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 114,672 miles

This 2002 Chevrolet Silverado is the absolute worst vehicle for rust issues. Not only did the brake lines rust out, but there is rust on the rocker panels, gas door and rear cab corners. This truck is a 3500 and it has never had really great brakes, not to mention that the emergency brake has never really worked.

02 Silverado as I tell this keep in mind its a well taken care of truck, the undercarriage of my truck looks like its 50 years old, all the brake lines are failing. I fix one and before I can get out 0f my driveway it springs another leak. I've replaced the front rubber lines, repaired a line just under the drivers seat along the frame rail. replaced the brakeline next to the gas tank and along the rearend to the passenger side caliper, I got done and backed out of the driveway only to spring another leak 1 foot from the master cylinder. alone the frame rail I have owned this truck for 11 years and in that time keep the oil changed like clock work, replaced the disc pads rotors and front hub assemblies it still has the spark plugs it was born with, I was a firm believer in chevy trucks as I have owned 8 or 9 but this brake line stuff has me madder than HELL at G.M. maybe its time to buy a FORD

Silverado LS 4.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 171,000 miles

Driving '02 Silverado 4.8 with 171k down Pudding Street on way to Taconic Parkway.

At 40 mph, tried to slow down to 30 mph on grade with a turn.

Pushed pedal down and it went to floor.

Put truck into low gear to slow, then used parking brake to slow to a stop while holding release handle.

The whole thing was not cool

Silverado LT Duramax Diesel

  • Automatic transmission
  • 101,560 miles

Severe corrosion problem with all fluid lines, brake components, driveshaft, frame, axles, under body. This truck should be recalled for severe safety issues which can result in serious injury or death to the driver or passengers and maybe others, because of these failures.

Silverado XL 4.8L

  • Manual transmission
  • 48,000 miles

Starting in 2007 every Sept I have had brake lines fail due to rusting out. In 2008 going down a hill with an empty cattle trailer on back. Both front and back let loose. My mistake each year was replacing only effected sections This year rust pieces broke loose inside front brakes and caused locked up front. Said goodbye to chevy after 40 yrs and bought 2 Fords. Thats how to fix the problem. A friend recently spoke to a dealer who volunteered that they have "fixed the brake line problem". I fixed mine.

Silverado LT Duromax Diesel

  • Automatic transmission
  • 135,000 miles

The brake lines are badly rusted . They should have been recalled. They are a accident waiting to happen. The alloy used in the metal lines must be bad. I have a 56 tbrd with the original lines and a 1994 Cadillac with original lines no rust also a 1991 Mercedes 500SL no rust. The rust is worst below the driver seat where the lines go along the frame
