Silverado LT 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 204,000 miles

Ran fine for 204,000 miles and then just stalled driving home. It felt like just running out of gas, sputtered, shuttered and stopped. I hooked up my DTC error code and there were no stored errors on the trucks computer and no errors on the dummy light display. So I replace fuel filter and no go. I towed it to the local Chevy dealership and I told them I thought it was the fuel pump and they said, "but of course it is! These all die at 100,000 miles an all of the Chevy trucks and you are lucky to get 204,000 miles." I said gee thanks and the fixed it for $1200 dollars hard earned cash. Then they said something really funny. "This new fuel pump has a lifetime guarantee so when it blows out again we will fix it for free at no charge at any dealership." Then I said why is not it frree now since you know it is a piece of "@#$!&*" ? They just turned, smiled, and waved goodbye.

PS: My other vehicle is a chevy based vehicle with the same engine, drive train etc. and it has a failed fuel sensor which by the way miraculously will cost $1200 to fix. It is the SAAB 97X which is just a souped up Envoy.

Silverado 2500HD 6.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,000 miles

I would be driving down the freeway, and the truck would all the sudden start loosing power, no matter how far I pushed the pedal, it would maintain and start dropping speed. then all the sudden, it would go away.A couple times it peter down to stalling on the side of the road. there were a few times I would warm my truck up in the morning, and I would go out and it would be stalled. Well finally, driving in a cold winter morning, it started the symptom again. well finally shutdown and wouldn't restart, Got towed to my barn. checked the fuel pump relay. it was ok, but noticed when I turned the key to on, I didn't hear the prime sound that the fuel pump makes. So I got a new one from Napa. about $260 or so Lifetime warranty.I recommend if you are doing the repair your self, drain the tank, I had a half of tank of gas. and it was still heavy as hell. An ATV jack makes life very easy. So a couple of hours. replaced the pump. truck fired right up. been ok ever since.

Silverado LS 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 38,000 miles

2002 Silverado C1500 Ext Cab pickup. My fuel pump died at 38k miles....common GM problem. Dealer quoted ~$900. I bought a pump motor on eBay for $50. 8 bolts free the bed. Ran a rope through the tie-down loops & hoisted the bed ~1 ft with 1.5 ton engine hoist. Rolled truck forward ~ 2ft, providing easy access to pump cover on tank. R&R pump motor, then reinstalled everything. Bed realigned easier than I expected. Time: 5 hours being ridiculously slow & careful; could repeat in less than 2 hours easy! Now at 101k miles with no problems.

Silverado LX

  • Automatic transmission
  • 151,000 miles

These Chevrolets are really bad for this problem, I have had a tahoe and another silverado to have the fuel pump go out, and it aint cheap to have repaired! The part alone is well over 400.00 plus labor.

Silverado 3500 8.1

  • Automatic transmission
  • 41,000 miles

The problem started about six months ago. The engine will quit at speed and sometimes while stopped. This last time I was towing a 14,00 lb. fith wheel rv at 60mph on a four lane in traffic and it stalled, had to sit in the inside lane for 10 minutes blocking traffic before engine would fire again, when we lost power, had no power steering, no power brakes and the rv pushing the truck. It is not and will be a enjoyable experience. Luckily there was no accident!!!
