The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving approximately 60 mph, the transmission failed to respond properly in the overdrive position. In addition, the transmission temperature warning indicator illuminated. The failure recurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic on three separate occasions where a repair was performed each time. The contact was uncertain of the specific parts that were replaced. The failure recurred and an independent mechanic was diagnosing the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage and VIN were unavailable.

Crested a small hill to see a red light with three cars in line. I depressed brake pedal, which went to the floor. The vehicle was stopped using the parking brake after swerving into empty lane of oncoming traffic in order to avoid hitting the line of cars from behind. Upon inspection, the front brake circuit was blown in the piping just aft of the front driver's side wheel. It is extremely difficult to stop a large truck with empty bed using only the rear brakes as they lock up easily. There seemed to be no brake power using the brake pedal, which is why the parking pedal was used. Even with a functional parking brake, the "failsafe" of having only one circuit is nearly useless given an empty truck bed (low rear-wheel traction) and a loss of pressure on the front circuit. In my opinion, losing the front brakes on a truck is catastrophic. In any event, in my case, the supposed fail-safe either did not work or was inconsequential. All of the hard lines (fuel and brake) on this vehicle are extremely corroded and are being replaced with stainless. This car spent the first five years of its life in Oklahoma and Missouri (where little to no salt is used) and moved to nh in 2006. The rear driver's side rocker panel is also rusted through and the frame has very significant rust, especially on the leaf spring hangers. In addition, the front driveshaft is rusted to the point that I will not operate the vehicle in 4WD until I replace it. This vehicle seems very susceptible to rust, especially the brake lines, some of which crumbled in my husbands hands while removing.

Where clutch master cylinder mounts in clutch pedal assy broke. Was unable to get out of gear causing me to hit a pole. Damaging bumper hood fender headlight turn signal and grill. Called the dealer they told me that clutch braking issues while driving is not a safety issue. I have done some checking and there are a lot of people with this issue but because GM says not a safety issue they just want to sell us parts to fix this problem.

On Feb 21st 2013 my transmission broke and it lost 2nd, 4th, and reverse, but was still drivable. I took it to a local independent transmission shop and they said it was a well-known problem. After doing extensive research I found that GM has known about this weak sun gear shell since at least 1998. The problem is that GM didn't remove the faulty parts from their inventory, although they updated the part sometime IN2000 GM mixed the new parts in with the old so that their statistics would show that not all 4L60E transmissions failed. Transmission rebuilders say you can only tell the faulty shell from the updated version by the serial number inside the faulty sun gear shell. Many engineering accomplishments in transmissions have been made in the past two decades with materials and lubricants. There is absolutely no reason for such a massive GM transmission failure. What makes it so bad after the ten dollar part fails GM charges $3,000 for a rebuilt transmission. If the faulty sun gear shell was replaced before total failure the price is less than $1,000. I watched as my transmission was being rebuilt and there was no visible wear on any other parts. It looked like brand new except this faulty sun gear shell. If this problem is so widely known for so many years throughout the industry why wasnt there a forced recall? if there was just one related death the government would have been all over this, what a shame. I for one would like some of my money back, now knowing that GM fraudulently covered up this massive problem.

Chevy extended cab, 1500 Silverado: While driving 45 mph, truck lost complete power, I.e. engine quit, pwr steering loss, no radio, gauges loss pwr. Complete loss of power in traffic. Truck restarted, sputtered, power loss, engine back on line (intermittently for approximately 1/4 mile). Vehicle resumed normal operation for several days. Garage found not discrepancies with vehicle. Five days elapsed. Vehicle loss (died) on highway again. Same described symptoms. Is there a recall or other similar issues out there?

2002 Chevy Silverado C1500 plastic clutch pedal and plastic slate cylinder has broken apart twice. Once around 80,000 miles and 128,000 endanger my life once on the freeway and on heavy street traffic. I feel that the problem I am having is danger to my health. I know these part should not have been installed or approved. Since this is the most important parts with a manual transmission, I feel these plastic do not belong in the powertrain system please help me with this problems I have two plastic clutch old parts for proof. Thank you

While driving my 02 Silverado Z71 (49900 miles) on the freeway at 65/75 mph, I noticed that the truck was slowing down and my foot was still on the gas pedal. The tachometer jumped to 6000-7000 RPM and I was going at 30-40 mph. My truck got towed to a Chevy dealer and cost me $3600 to install a new/reman transmission. The dealer could not specify why the transmission failed.

Many of the problems took several times in the shop to fix. The castrophic failures in the engine & transmission have never been fixed. The truck has lunging, dead spots & surges & the transmission clunks (shifts hard, jerky) the auto may or may not accelerate on demand & will later accelerate when you need to apply the brakes.

The drive train was defective, when the vehicle reached a speed of 70 mph it lost power and had become uncontrollable. There was a slippage in the drive train, made excessive noise when shifting up or down, and is easy to come apart. On several occasions, the transmission appeared to lose contact with the rear end.
