Silverado 1500 LT 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 166,000 miles

Car will stall and seems to lose all power during low speed turns. Sometimes it turns right back on and other times it will stay dead and the car has to coast to a stop unpowered. The only remedy is disconnecting the red battery cable. The car will then start right back up. The issue seems to occur most commonly when it's driven, turned off for some length of time and then started up again. This is extremely dangerous and has the potential to be life threatening.

Silverado 1500 LT Z71 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission

I was driving today and when I pulled up to a stop light, my dash light started flickering and my stabilitrak warning came on. I proceeded to my destination and when I got there, I went to pack in to my spot and the entire electrical system shut down. Power steering was gone, and all interior electronics were gone. When I pulled my keys out of the ignition, all of my doors started to lock and unlock, then everything went black again. This has happened while driving down the highway and it won’t be long before it causes an accident if it hasn’t already. Dealerships have told me they know about this issue but nothing is being done about it.

My 2014 Silverado pretty much have the same problems as other Silverado owners, they shut down while driving, and the steering wheel locks as I slow down or make a turn.

While making a hard right turn into a parking space at the store the power steering goes out and the whole truck shuts down in mid turn!!! Not only is it embarrassing for your truck to suddenly shut down while making a maneuver but very dangerous!!! WTH

Silverado 1500 LT

  • Automatic transmission
  • 115,000 miles

Had a 2014 Silverado LT with 115K miles. It would stall out from time to time but usually under 20mph or so and the power steering wouldn't work. It was really bad and I never seemed to realize where the problem started from. I had a custom subwoofers put in the truck and that only made it worse. Glad I got rid of it. GM has been horrible.

Silverado 1500 High Country 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 59,115 miles

While driving down the highway at 70 mph with the cruise set, I used the left turn signal to change lanes and everything shut off and turn back on. Cruise control shut off, radio flashed, door locks cycled, traction control shut off and the truck slowed way up. Almost hit in the rear! I just bought the truck so there is still a warranty. Hopefully they can find something wrong with it.

Silverado 1500 LT, Z71 4WD 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 65,320 miles

My 2014 Silverado has been stalling while I've been on the highway going over 65mph. My engine cuts off and my speed is reduced by about 10mph almost instantly. It shuts off all lights and displays inside and most likely outside of the cabin. Check engine light comes on, airbag light comes on and get a stability warning on the dash. Then it was like nothing happened until I got to a parking spot where it completely turned off in mid-parking. This has happened more than once and once while I had my infant daughter in the back.

I took my truck to the Chevrolet dealer to perform the fix for recall 17276 which supposedly fix a temporary loss of electric power steering and a few months later I experienced a loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist during a 35mph left turn then a few milliseconds after the engine and all electrical stuff shut down completely, fortunately It was on a light traffic road, on a highway it most likely will jeopardize my life and the life of the drivers behind me.

I called GM customer service about this situation and they said that as the recall was perform they cannot do anything and everything should be out of pocket even that this issue is exactly the same problem than the have on the recall description and the vehicle, as a matter of fact didn't have any problem previously to the supposed recall fix.

I'll recommend stay out of GM trucks as they definitely are some death traps.

My truck has experienced electrical problems for several months now. I took my truck to local dealer and they said that they could not duplicate problem. My steering assist has gone in and out during low speed turns. My stability warning comes on randomly. The latest problem happened on June 29 2019 when I turned the ignition off. When I tried to open doors with remote entry nothing happened. When I put the key in the ignition it was if I had no battery in the truck. I suspect that the problem is with the battery cable. The thing that puzzles me is later when I went to diagnose the problem, I had power. I did not wiggle battery cable or open hood. Because of this, I am not sure of exact problem. If anybody has similar issues please let me know the fix. I do not want to start randomly replacing parts and Chevy dealer is not any help with my electrical problems.

Big scare while making left turn from a 45 mile an hour road. While slowing to make the left turn, truck dash lights went out completely, engine shut off, power steering lost, brakes lost. Within seconds truck automatically powered back up. Various warning lights on the dash went on. The only one I remember was the Stabilitrack. But the warning indicators only went on for a brief moment, then turned off. I was still collecting my nerves while going through the intersection so didn't notice all of them. I proceeded cautiously for another mile and upon coming to a stop the truck died again; then restarted. Fortunately I had someone with me to verify what was happening. Kind of a reality check. Indeed this was an incredibly helpless moment. Also prior to leaving, my headlights were flickering.

Called dealer where I bought the truck. They don't seem to be familiar with this problem. Not sure I talked to a responsible person. They said there were no recalls for this problem. Went on line and found a video of the same problem. A guy said he believed he solved it by cleaning out the 'sound deadening material' around the "Grounding Points" (G-218 points) in the dash board. Apparently the material can impede the grounding point. There are two grounding points under the dash just behind the front speakers. Cut out some of the deadening material away from the grounding points and put it back together. Not sure I solved the problem. Drove the truck and it is fine for now. My lights still flicker a little, so I'm not convinced this did the trick. I guess I'll need to take it in or die trying to get there.

This is very concerning. I don't want to rack up a bunch of charges and still not get this resolved. I'm tempted to see if any local news media outlets might help us out. Someone will die with this. If GM can't fix it who will? And I was just making fun of a Dodge guy.

All electrical system shut down while travelling 70 mph on highway. Loss of power steering, the info screens turned off, all gauges read zero. After a few seconds, power returned and many features were turned off/disabled including traction control, parking assist, etc. Vehicle has also had trouble where it has no electrical power while stopped and power steering fails at low speeds.

This is an extension of the complaint before. The entire electrical system has shut down on my on many occasions. In the reported incident the system had a complete power failure as if the battery was dead. It wasn't until messing with the ground wires I could access without tools that I was able to get the power restored. This is a systemic problem with GM trucks and GM needs to be held responsible. Thank God me nor my family were not injured in this instance.

First the power steering went out. I did some tweaks I found online and fixed it for a while. Then they came out with a recall on that problem which I quickly took to the dealership and they said they fixed it. Don't drive the truck often so it sat for a while. Then I went to pick up a horse with my whole family in the truck and about two hours from home I pull to a stop light and it just dies. I quickly put it in park turn the ignition off and then it starts right back up.

I go to a dealership where they tell me they have never heard of this problem. When I unhook my horse trailer in the parking lot the power steering goes out with the service manager standing right there. I tell him they supposedly fixed that under the recall which he again knows nothing about. After about an hour in the waiting room they can't find the problem but they find something it might be that they can replace next week for about $3,000.00 but they don't know if it will fix anything.

I put my family in the truck and luckily get it home. My local mechanic clears the codes and tells me to drive it til it does something. I drive it probably 20 miles total. Then one day my wife and I ride down the road to look at my neighbors house. We turn in the driveway and when I back out in the road it dies!! I'm in both lanes and I can do nothing. My wife is yelling to get out. Luckily I'm on a hill and I put it in neutral and coast til I center the white line, still halfway in the road with no power whatsoever. Wife jumps out flagging cars to slow down. When coast is clear for a moment I push the truck almost off the road and go to the neighbors house for help.

I get a chain and his Ford to pull me into the driveway, When my wife and I get back to the truck I hook it up and get inside for her to pull me but when I turn the key everything comes on and the truck starts. I jump out and unhook the chain as my wife pulls off I get back in and it says to roll the drivers window down and back up which I do. I then pull into my neighbors driveway and we stay awhile then the truck starts fine and I go home.

Mechanic is out of town so I will see what the codes say but I can bet it will be a huge amount like the last time he cleared them. Just thanking God that I wasn't at a very busy road with my whole family in the truck trying to make a fast turn around because it would have been deadly.

Please help

While driving last week my truck shut down while taking a right turn at low speeds (10 MPH). The media display, stabiltrack, radio have all stopped working at some point. Yesterday at 60 MPH the truck, with the cruise control and turning signal on, the truck shut off shut off. -- No steering, no control of the vehicle. I had my wife and three kids in the car. I have had this truck for 6 months, and nothing but problems.

I'm afraid to put my kids back in it.
