Silverado 1500 High Country 6.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 42,000 miles

Today, 26 Aug 2019, during a normal turn to a city side street, the vehicle shut off. All steering and brakes were inoperable. There was an Engine Malfunction light and a message about there being 2 identical keys for the truck then the Anti Theft flashed.

While stopped in the intersection blocking traffic, a message directed to roll down the drivers window then back up. When that was done, electrical came back on and steering was restored.

The vehicle was started and is now UNSAFE for use.

The control for being on or OFF is unreliable due to its intermittency and therefore UNSAFE to use as a transport. 42000 miles on the 2014 High Country Silverado. No Steering. No Brakes... that makes it unsafe.

Would you put your family in this vehicle and ask them to drive safely? How do you justify giving total control to volatile software? How about at 75 MPH and it fails? Just knowing it can happen, would have ensured I consider another purchase. I believe that information alone will justify someone else's marketing data.

I am ashamed to be a lifelong Chevy owner. I prefer my 1972 K5 Blazer because it doesn’t ding me to death nor try to “help” me. It’s quiet, powerful and without “drive by wire” fail-ology. In fact, you cannot have drive by wire and performance “as a driver defines it”. The EPA influence has ruined real performance. All you need to do, is give me options to DISABLE (completely) certain conditions. Anti-theft. Dinging reminders. Trailer Brake Settings. Audio inputs. Every app in the Infotainment center.

Silverado 1500 LT 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,100 miles

Was towing my 16ft stock trailer with 2 calves. Went to make left turn, engine shut down, steering went out, brakes out. Left turn was downhill, took everything I had to turn the wheel to not run off embankment, brake pedal to floor? No brakes on truck or trailer. Thank GOD no oncoming vehicle! After finally got stopped, there was a window message to roll up driver's window. Truck restarted. What the heck? I am now scared to drive this truck!!! Is there a fix for this??? I could have been severely injured, or injured someone else!!!

Silverado 1500 LT 4.3L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 25,000 miles

I was driving and after about 1 block the engine lost power. It didn't seem to be getting any gas, it then sputtered and died! Attempts to restart were futile. Ended up having truck towed to dealer and after 3 days still haven't been able to fix. I think the dealership is doing all they can to figure it out even in touch with GM. No luck so far, not what you would expect from a 2 year old truck! $30000 waste of money, assuming warranty will cover. Get it fixed and get something other than GM

Update from May 23, 2016: Turned out that the after market back-up camera began shorting out the electronic ignition causing t he gas to also stop pumping. The dealership lent me a new truck for the 3 days they had my truck, they discussed the problem with the installer and disconnected the camera. The installer connected a different way and all is well. Installer also paid the bill for dealership,. Great customer service from both businesses.
