2000 Chevrolet Silverado lost brakes due to the flex pipe rubbing the right front wheel. February 2001 the consumer received a recall for clearance condition between the front right brake pipe and the body cross sill (00V345000). On Oct 14, 2003 the front brake pads and rotors had to be replaced. The vehicle had 75155 miles. On Nov 9, 2005 another recall was received in reference to rust on the front wheel sensors (05V379000). After repair and less than 100 miles later the brakes failed due to the flex pipe rubbing the right front wheel. Emergency brake had to be adjusted. The consumer believes that when the recall work was done some how they got the flex line against the wheel causing the brakes to fail. The consumer is convinced that the dealer never did the recall for the right brake pipe.

Failure of 3 brake components within 3 1/2 months, including replacement of all 4 rotors due to their having rusted out, 2 front ABS sensors, and immediately thereafter we are advised that the brake lines have rusted out (not yet replaced); neither the dealer nor the manufacturer will discuss with us, state that this is environmental, notwithstanding that our other (and older) vehicles have never had anything like this; we have been stone walled by the dealer and GM. Truck is presently inoperable due to no brakes!

I was driving on a four lane interstate in cruise control going 70 mph. Suddenly I was going down the highway sideways. I slid off the road and hit a highway sign which slowed me and must have jarred something because then I could use my brakes and all four of them seemed to work. I smashed the drivers side door and rocker panel and other damage, probably bent the rim on a tire, had cuts on both hands and had to take my dogs and cat to the vet as they were in shock. I was about 130 to 150 miles from home and thanks to friends was able to get home that evening. The Chevrolet dealership I had it towed to, said they could find no reason for the rear wheels to lock. But according to the dps officer that is what they seemed to do.

The consumer stated the rotors rusted on the vehicle and ripped the brake pads off. The vehicle had 30,000 miles on it. The brakes started to squeal when the steel backing was rubbing against the rotors. The dealership would not fix the problem under warranty; it was 1 year out of warranty. The consumer had to pay for the problem himself. The manufacturer stated it was normal wear and tear for the brakes to go out at 30,000 miles. Consumer isn't exactly sure when the brakes started going bad, but it was approximately 9 months ago. This same vehicle the tailgate support cable broke on the passenger side, broke. There is a recall for this, NHTSA #04V129000, but his vehicle was not part of the recall. The consumer noticed that the cable was broke approximately 1-2 months ago.

2000 Chevy Silverado, problems with brakes. When applied brakes they went to floor and had to pump brake pedal to stop. It took a long distance to stop. Almost had several accidents because of this problem. Replaced both hub assemblies on the front of the vehicle. At the cost of $420.42. Mechanic said that they he had several repairs of this kind and brake sensor failed that was in hub assembly.

The brakes on my truck do not stop the truck in a reasonable distant. When I pulled off the wheels you could see where the pads on the front wheels were almost gone, but the rear shoes were hardly worn. I did change the front pads. I also have the sticking gas pedal problem which I have had the dealer work on with no results.

Consumer states that upon coming up on a stop the vehicle will continue to coast almost causing an accident a total of two times. Consumer states that it has the very same problem as GM states in the recall for the brakes.

While applying the brake pedal, the brakes failed. The driver applied the brake pedal, numerous times and the vehicle failed to stop completely. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic can not duplicate the problem at this time.

Vehicle was taken to dealer for replacement of brakes and rotors. Few weeks later, the ABS light illuminated. Consumer took vehicle back to dealer, and was told that brakes needed to be replaced again. Cost would be $400 since it was not under warranty.

While driving and upon depressing the brake pedal it felt as if there was air in them. Had to push down harder than normal stop the vehicle. The seat belt began to tighten to the point where it was hard to breath. The consumer had to unfasten the belt to release the tension.

A loud squeaking noise was heard coming from the rear. The consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer. The mechanic determined that rear brakes and rotors needed to be replaced. While making a sudden stop the consumer noticed that the brakes were not responding properly. The consumer then noticed the rear brakes making a squeaking noise. The consumer moved the rear wheels, brake calipers and rotors and found a metal surface where the brake pads deteriorated. On the drivers side rotor, the pad was wearing on 3/8 inch of the metal surface. The consume knew of others with the same make/model/year with the same problem.

Brakes fail at low speed, try to go into anti-lock. Changed complete brakes, rotors, pads etc. On all four(4) wheels of the vehicle. Problem still exists. Scheduled for recheck September 30/03 for review of hoses and lines also will put on computor for fault readings. Truck crashed into a wood pile at our summer home no personnal injuries but some paint scratching. Disconnected the fuse for the anti-lock brakes had no problem with brakes failing just that ABS light and hand brake light stayed on all the time. Put the fuse back in and problem still exists this is why it will be rechecked September 30/03 to read faults as they are still failing. Very scarey when all of a sudden no brakes at low speed.

The truck has intermittently had brake problems since it was new. What will occur is when applying the brakes below 20 mph the pedal will fade to the floor and you will hear the ABS kicking in. The truck will take a very long time to stop. This occurs once a month and has now started to occur weekly if not daily. We are afraid to drive the truck.

2000 K2500 pickup. Have had the brakes and rotors replaced twice and now needs a 3rd time. Truck only has 40,000 miles and can not keep brakes and rotors on it. The second time the dealer finally told me GM had a problem with these brake issues and now are giving me the run around to get the brakes done the 3rd time.

When brakes were applied they jerked and were not stopping the vehicle efficiently, there was also a clanking noise noticed while driving the vehicle. Dealer was consulted - he stated that the people who rotated the tires torqued them too much. Went back to dealer who supplied the tires - they replaced the brake linings on the front thinking this would solve the problem - it didn't. they then pulled the rotors and found that the rotors were basically falling apart - the metal was just falling off. Front rotors were replaced. Within a week the back rotors were doing the same - took the vehicle to a local garage, because the brakes were not functioning very well. The rear rotors were in the same if not worse condition. Chevy was contacted. They did not want to acknowledge the problem even though their dealer service manager, backed up the complaint (we took one of the rotors to the service manager to show him. They are not interested in this problem - said that they couldn't be sure the rotors came off of their vehicle. They also did not show any understanding of the seriousness of not having brakes - their attitude was very disconcerting.

When the driver attempted to stop the vehicle the brakes failed and the driver had to use the emergency brake to slow the vehicle. When the driver turned in a driveway he saw smoke emitting from he engine compartment. The fire department arrived and extinguished the fire. The vehicle was a total loss.
