Near total brake failure. Rust scale on rotors (all four wheels) eating into brake pads reducing brake pad to 20% of arrear. Brake pads do not clean rust from rotor. This is an insidious failure of braking system causing loss of brake efficiency.

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that the brake pads were eating up the rotor on his front brakes. The failure causes uneven wear and tear. He heard squealing noises and the pads were not touching the rotor to stop the vehicle properly. The contact will take the vehicle to the dealer soon for a diagnostic. The failure mileage was 53,000.

Antilock brake system engages at vehicle speeds of under 10 mph on dry conditions. I previously owned a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe with the same problem. One would think that GM would correct this problem. Vehicle has 13,000 miles, but is over 36 mo. Old, so is no longer covered under warranty.

: the contact stated the brakes on the vehicle are not working properly. When applying the brakes, the rear brakes do not work. The vehicle was taken to the dealership to determine what the problem. The dealership adjusted the rear brakes and explained the vehicle was repaired. After driving the vehicle for a period of time, it is experiencing the same problems with the brakes. The vehicle was taken in a second time for repairs to be made. At that time the drums were turned. The vehicle was driven again for a period of time, while still experiencing the same problems with the brakes. The vehicle was taken back a third time and at this time the dealership is unable to duplicate the problem.

I reported that the vehicle did not seem to want to move from a stopped position. Approximately three weeks later the problem repeated itself but with the service brake system lights coming on.
