Saw wet spot under driver's side of truck, just behind engine compartment. Knew it wasn't good as the ac is on the other side. Figured I'd check it later. Started truck and as soon as I put my foot on the brake pedal, I could feel something was wrong. Stopped truck, popped hood and checked brake fluid level in master cylinder. Saw it was low. Added a pint of fluid and looked under the truck. Saw it leaking from a rusted out brake line near the ABS module. All lines are rusted and in need of replacement.

I was in fast lane on highway approaching some construction and was cut off by someone who passed me on the right. I stepped hard on my brakes and the pedal went all the way to the floor.. I hit the person in front of me and ruined my front bumper. Upon inspection of my vehicle I noticed brake fluid dripping from frame rail..I looked and noticed a line ruptured due to rust / rot and all the brake lines where in bad condition. I was able to crutch the truck to a repair shop and the repaired the steel line. Mechanic made me aware of the terrible condition all the steel lines were in ( fuel lines, transmission lines, ect) and that the brake bleeders on front calipers where also rotted beyond saving.. I believe all these lines should have been stainless steel as they are exposed to the elements and I'm lucky to have not totaled the truck, injured someone else and or myself.

Brake pedal went to the floor with no braking available. This was just after a 300 + mile trip hauling a horse trailer and two horses. Service investigation revealed ruptured hydraulic brake lines. All brake lines are severely corroded and all must be replaced. Worst portion is just under the drivers seat area where three lines run together. Called dealer and GM, it appears to be a common problem since GM now offers a discounted brake line kit. May posts on Chevy forums reveal the exact problem. Something should be done as this appears to be a bad design. Fortunate that this did not happen while on the turnpike.

When I backed out of my driveway, which is on an incline, the brake pedal went to the floor and I just missed backing out into a busy road. I took the truck in for repairs immediately following the incident. The repairs cost nearly $750. They said that most all of the brake lines were rusted and the one on the rear drivers side had a hole rusted through.

I bought my Chevy 3500 dually 4X4 to drive when I needed it to haul things or for the 4WD. I told my daughter it was going to snow and make the roads dangerous so I would take her to work and pick her up when she was done everything went well no signs of any problems before and after I had taken her to work so when she called I went to pick her up at work and had to wait a little while for her to finish up after I had gotten to her work then I drove her home and just after getting off the interstate we pulled into the driveway and I pulled up to the house and almost went through my garage door when my brake pedal went to the floor at about 10-15 mph with absolutly no warning what so ever I would have never used the truck if I had remotely thought something was wrong with the brakes I drive semi trucks for a living and always check things around my vehicles by second nature since I am responsible for the safe operation of the vehicles I drive. I had my truck towed to the dealer where I purchased it new and told them I had contacted GM about the problem and that I told them I expected it to be repaired free of charge and GM response was that they wanted the dealer to evaluate it and the evaluation would be free of charge they did and they found the brake lines rusted in half and also busted at the rubber hose connections so GM said that they would cover 30% of the repair of the brake lines in which they did but it still cost me $1800. GM insisted that my brake lines rusted in half because my truck sits a lot I told them I have a 1990 Mazda I bought new that sits beside it that I have never had any safety problems out of. GM also has changed the brake lines to a plastic coated line. I had also told them that it was a poor design where the water ran off the windshield and down onto the brake lines right where they rusted and broke GM needs to stand behind its product.

I have a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500hd all of the brake linings had rusted. My brakes failed while I was driving. Fortunately I controlled the vehicle and was able to stop, saw the leak and was towed.a private company replaced all lines. I emailed my concern to Chevrolet, asked to have my comments forwarded to CEO-product improvement. Subsequently had a phone conversation (866-790-5600) [xxx]with [xxx] could not send this information to CEO product improvement. If the brake linings fail you have no brakes. ABS engages at slow speeds - evidently there is a known problem with the ABS sensors engaging at low speeds. This is a potentially dangerous defect. It is scary when you approach a stop and the brakes release. GM has known about this problem and has issued a service bulletin. There was a recall on previous years but stopped in 06 even though they never fixed the problems. They should reinstate the recall and fix the remaining vehicles. We have not been involved in an accident because of the defective sensors but I consider us fortunate.

Master cylinder reservoir fluid level dropped from full to activation of brake service light. Investigation of the cause led to the discovery a leak in the brake line from the anti lock brake actuator to the right front brake caliper. All the brake lines appear to be extensively corroded.

I was preparing to slow down as I approached my driveway. When I applied my vehicle's brakes, the brake pedal went completely to the floor. My vehicle did not slow down and I had to utilize me emergency brake and also shift into a lower gear in order to slow down. I was unable to slow down enough to safely make a turn and subsequently my vehicle travelled thru a ditch area and came to a stop in my front yard. Completing a check of my vehicle's brake system, I learned that my master cylinder was completely empty. I had my vehicle towed to a local garage where I was told the vehicle's complete braking system lines had rusted away causing all brake fluid loss and needed to be replaced. All brakes lines were replaced from the master cylinder to the ABS module and then to each brake system at the wheel. The cost of the work was $598. My vehicle is a 2006 model year and is in excellent shape, however I'm very unhappy with the braking fluid lines failing with only 52,500 miles on my vehicle. I don't understand why there has been no safety recall notice on the part of General Motors. The local dealership refused to assist me with the matter and at this time I'm completing this complaint. The national highway transportation safety administration needs to take immediate action upon General Motors to ensure higher quality of brake lines are installed instead of substandard brake lines. I was lucky that I was not involved in a more serious accident/incident with the brakes failing. I would also like to see General Motors reimburse me in full for the cost of the repairs.

Happened in the driveway, thankfully. Brake pedal spongy, pushed again and went to the floor. Got out of the truck and found a puddle of brake fluid under the driver's side. Further inspection, the brake line has rusted through and was spraying fluid when the pedal was pushed. Complete failure of brakes. Thank goodness for the E brake.

While traveling along rt 80 in New Jersey at 65 mph, traffic began to slow in all lanes. I hit my brakes only to find that my foot went completely to the floor and had possibly 10% braking ability remaining to stop the truck. I was only able to avoid contacting the vehicles in front of me by downshifting, using the emergency brake and running onto the highway shoulder and off the road to avoid an accident. I was able to drive slowly to the closest repair shop where I was informed that the brake lines were corroded and leaking brake fluid. As a result, when I hit my brakes, the brake fluid leaked causing the lack of peddle pressure and did not operate the brakes properly. I had no previous warning that there was any brake problems. Additionally, the gas lines were corroded and required replacement. This is an additional hazard that could cause a fire. The corroded brake line issue is a well known (except to me prior to the incident) and documented problem of which Chevrolet refuses to notify vehicle owners. The first time owners are aware of the brake line problem is when they try to stop the truck and by that point, it is too late.

While stopping for traffic light, brakes were weak and required excessive pressure to activate enough to stop vehicle. Pulled into nearest parking lot and found brake fluid dripping from chassis under driver door area. Called tow truck to take vehicle to dealer. Tried to move vehicle to make it easier for tow truck operator to hook up and pedal went completely to floor with no braking effect. Used parking brake to stop. Dealer said entire brake system needs to be replaced due to corrosion.
