problem #509

Jun 192005

Silverado 3500 4WD 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 115,000 miles
The anti lock brakes locked up while moving at a very slow speed 3- 10 mph as note in GM's recall # 05V379000. This recall only recognized the rust belt states. My truck on several occasions as I was coming to a stop light the anti- lock brakes would activate and have come close several times with swerving off the road to avoid having a collision with another vehicle. This caused one time to run up on the curb and almost hit a light post. My truck was brought to les schuab tire center and they could not find anything wrong with the ABS system because no codes flashed. Problem is still not fixed.

The vehicle was taken to the and was fixed. The consumer thought that when the dealership performed the recall repair that it would fix the problem, however, the ABS motor was still not working properly. The vehicle was driven for three months with the fuse out to the ABS motor. The emergency brake and ABS light had come came on when the consumer had taken the fuse out. I have been having trouble with the brakes on my pickup truck causing my truck to want to go into a spin when I try to stop. The truck pulls to either the left or right when slowing to a stop. I brought it to the dealer to have the problem checked out and they told me the brakes just needed cleaning. The problem continued after the cleaning and recently I noticed the ABS system kicking in also. I heard about a recall involving 1999 vintage GM pickup trucks having a problem with the ABS brakes so I inquired with GM about the recall. I was told that there were no recalls on my vehicle; a 1999 Chevy Silverado 3500. I also read a couple of news articles that said GM wasn't finding enough evidence here in the us to justify a recall on these vehicles. I haven't had an accident caused by this yet and I hope that I don't but winter is coming and the likelihood will increase due to the driving conditions.

1999 Chevy, ABS activates at low speeds ever since I bought the truck used in NY 2 years ago. When the problem started it was hit and miss, but now it happens all the time at low braking speeds. I have replaced 1 low speed sensor that did not help, so I removed the ABS fuse. GM said that my problem fits the recall #05068, but I was not the original owner and live in nc that I was not going to be included in the recall. I feel that this recall should include all vehicles that have been titled in the "salt belt" states regardless of where they are now and who owns them.

1999 Chevrolet Silverado half ton pick up truck. The consumer complained about the anti lock brake system. Spoken to the manufacturer on September 28, 2005, and they said it was not under any recall due to the VIN. Recall 05V379000 was issued on the year, make and model of my truck on August, 29, 2005. When approaching a stop it took a longer time to stop the vehicle. In inclement weather vehicle did not grip the road. It would hydroplane more often. This started in November 2003, pulled the fuse on the ABS pump because it shorted out and would drain the battery. It will cost $1,200 - $1,300 to repair the pump. When this first started to happen the consumer lived in North Carolina, and it was during a snow storm. Too many failures to count. The consumer's vehicle was not included in the recall because it was not registered in a snow belt state.
