Silverado 3500 8-cyl

While waiting in line at hardees drive thru, the brake pedal went all the wall to the floor. Upon inspecting the truck I found all of the brake lines underneath had rusted and one from the master cylinder had rusted all the way thru. I replaced this line with a carbon coated steel that cost only $8.99. However I do feel pretty fortunate because we were headed upon a mountain going deer hunting. I really don't want to think about what could have happened if we were comin off "high knob" and this line had blown. I also think GM is very lucky that someone hasn't gotten seriousy hurt or killed yet but I think it is only a matter of time unless they recall these vehicles and replace all the brake lines with a better grade of steel or a coated steel to protect them from corrosion. Also I read some of GM response to this issue and I would like to reply to them that once a line is blown being front or back the pedal goes to the floor and once the fluid is gone you have nothing but the park brake, if you can actually think about it during all the panic of pumpin the brake pedal trying to get a vehicle to stop. This really is a dangerous problem and these vehicles need to be recalled and all the brake lines replaced.

While stopping; brake pedal went to the floor and was barely able to stop vehicle. If I had been diving @ highway speed I would not have been able to stop and would have been in a bad accident. After getting out of vehicle, found brake fluid leaking on ground under vehicle that was coming from above left frame member just to rear of firewall @ location were brake lines all come together. There was a line of brake fluid on pavement the entire distance that I had been trying to stop. Brake lines appeared to be rusted thru also observed that fuel lines badly rusted also. I have since found out that this is an ongoing problem with Chevrolet trucks and that GM has made a kit to repair problem. This is serious design flaw that GM should issue a recall and fix @ their expense. There should be an immediate safety recall to address the problem before someone get seriously injured or killed.

Silverado 3500 4WD 8-cyl

  • 97,000 miles
Was under the truck few days ago and noticed the brake line to the rear of the truck is seriously corroded, upon further inspection of brake lines, noticed that almost all the steel brake lines on the pickup are seriously corroded and a few under the cab connecting to the ABS module are beginning to leak, this is a serious safety concern and will not drive the truck till I have the time and money to replace them, have not been able to find a replacement part number for them from GM, however classic tube industries makes a stainless steel set that I will be purchasing when the funds allow, till that happens the pickup will not leave the driveway as it is an accident waiting to happen, other then the brake lines I also found the entire chassis to be rusted badly for a 10 year old vehicle!!

I was replacing left front brake caliper and started to bleed the brakes when brake peddle kept going all the way to the floor. I then looked under the truck and under driver side door was a puddle of brake fluid. I found out it was coming from the brake lines that go to the ABS controller. After further investigating brake lines they are all rusted bad, I have own this truck since new cant believe I have to replace all the brake lines on it now.

I was driving on a street in philadelphia, when a couple of children started to cross the street in front of my vehicle, when I applied my brakes the pedal went to the floor. I had to swerve to avoid hitting the children and narrowly missed them and another vehicle. I took the vehicle to my local Chevrolet dealer's service department, and they indicated the metal brake line had deteriorated and rusted thru.

On my way home from vacation thankfully I stopped to use the restroom. When I left the parking lot I noticed that the brake pedal went to the floor and the vehicle slowly stopped. Saw brake fluid on the ground and looked under the hood saw a burst brakeline above the left wheel. I was out of state had to be towed to a repair facility. Noticed all the brake lines badly rusted and opted to replace all of them at a cost of $1100. Thankfully this did not occur on the highway that I had just exited at speeds of 70mph!

I am not sure of the exact date of the first incident. Can report if necessary. On Saturday, August 11, 2012, after a stop at the end of my driveway, I proceeded across the street and stopped again at my parents driveway to pick up their mail. Upon climbing the hill of their driveway, I attempted to stop in front of their garage when my brake lines ruptured and I lost all braking power. Thankfully, I was able to put the truck in park before hitting the garage door. I had my mechanic tow the truck to his shop and he said it would cost a "couple thousand dollars" because he needs to lift the cab off the frame to replace the lines. Last year, I had to replace all of the caliper, rotors, pads, parking brake pads and backing plate and all of the rear brake lines which were severely corroded. I have less than 33000 miles on this vehicle which I bought new. The total cost of those repairs was 2800. Add the 2000 or so for this repair and it comes to almost 5000. I feel there should be some relief from GM due to the unusual wear and corrosion and the low mileage. Please advise me of any necessary steps to resolve this issue.

Slowing down to park, pushed brakes, pedal went to the floor. Barely stopped before pinning someone between my vehicle and another truck. Rear brake line burst below driver seat, brake fluid puddle under truck. Upon inspection, all 4 brake lines running along the frame totally rusted, about to burst. Need to replace all lines on whole truck. On the flatbed towtruck, noticed the driver rear leaf spring where it wraps around the bushing was missing the top half. This is where force is transmitted from axle to frame (back is a hanger / pivot). The whole rear axle could have torn off. Noticed where it had cracked and had rusted 1/2 through before falling off, likely sometime recently.

Silverado 3500

  • 48,000 miles
The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated that the anti-lock braking system would activate erroneously while driving 10-15 mph, increasing the braking distance of the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer for a diagnostic test. The test results showed a faulty anti-lock braking sensor. The vehicle was repaired but the failure would recur while driving at low speeds. The contact stated the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA campaign I.D. number 05V379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock) but the repair did not remedy the failure. The failure mileage was 48,000.

I was driving and tried to apply the brakes. The brake pedal went completely to the floor and I had no brakes. I applied the emergency brake to get the vehicle stopped. I found the main brake line going to the rear axle had blown. After further investigation, I found every one of the brake lines coming off of the ABS block to be completely deteriorated/rusted. Every brake line on the vehicle will need to be replaced. It was also noted that the fuel lines are not rusted. There is obviously a difference in the metal used at the time. Also should be noted, that there was no indication or warning from the vehicle when this happened. I brake reservoir was not completely drained when the line blew.

While turning left into a parking space, the brake peddle was hard and would not go down. After pumping the brakes, the peddle went down and the truck stopped. This has happened several times. Each time, while turning left and going slower than 10 mph. I have found that this is a common problem with this vehicle and there is a recall for "salt belt" states. Tennessee is not considered one, even though the roads are salted several times per winter season.
