Anti-lock braking system on 1999 Chevrolet Suburban 1500. This vehicle has the exact same symptoms as the recall of PE-05020 and 05V379000. Low speed activation of the anti lock ABS. General Motors states"the vehicle in question is not on the recall, it was manufactured in Mexico". correction to the reported recall on 2000 to 2002 models is for the "dealer" to clean apply anti rust and then grease to the hub and reluctor. The recall and correction however does not apply to the 1999 chrevolet Suburban even thought the vehicle is used in the "salt belt". low speed activation can and may lead to increased stopping distance and a crash. The dealers refuse to correct teh porblem due to the 1999 Chevrolet Suburban is no on recall. The vehicle has exact same problems as the 200 to 2002.

I believe the 1999 Chevrolet Suburban should be included in the NHTSA campaign # 05V379000 and the GM recall # 05068 even though General Motors tells me that my VIN# is not part of there recall. My vehicle experiences the exact symptoms as those described in the above campaign and recall numbers ( antilock brakes unexpectedly activating at low speeds of about 3-10 mph ). the antilock brakes on my vehicle would occasionally activate at low speeds and at first I did not think it was much of a problem. Now every time I brake and the vehicle slows to a speed of about 6 mph, the antilock brakes start to activate. I now know this is a safty issue because once the antilock brakes start to activate, the vehicle takes longer to stop no mater how hard I press on the brakes. I will probably take the vehicle to the dealer for repair and hope G.M. will reimburse me if and when they realize this year Suburban should be part of the original recall.

I'm having an ongoing ABS system problem that is the same problem that recall 05068 had. As I slow to a stop my ABS system kicks on below 10 mph but above 3 mph. When the ABS system kicks on it is a load grinding noise followed by a decrease in controllability and a pulling to the right of the vehicle. The recall 05068 only covered 2000-2002 Suburban years, mine is a 1999 K2500.

It has 175K miles, I live in Michigan, and the ABS has been kicking in at low speeds in dry conditions for about 15K miles. Website www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/1999/GMC/Suburban and www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/1999/Chevrolet/Suburban+1500 are loaded with the same complaints - 1999 models with ABS engaging at low speeds. This is an obvious safety issue.

1999 Suburban lt low speed brake failure!. ABS kicks in at 1-10 mph, groaning sound accompanies pedal vibration and no stopping power. Started at about 100K. Pads replaced brakes inspected continues to happen brakes pull, wear too quickly, vibrate at times. Poor braking system for such a large heavy weighing truck. This model Suburban has many documented complaints of the same nature and should be recalled and repaired by GM.

There is a recall for the 2000 Suburban (NHTSA campaign id number 05V379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock)) for the same symptoms; however, the dealer stated that there are no recalls for the 1999 models. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure occurs each time the vehicle is driven. The failure mileage was 125,000 and current mileage was 130,000.

I bought a new 1999 Chevrolet Suburban 1500lt in January 2000. Within the first year, the brakes had to be replaced. I have endured this annual replacement of brakes ever since. Six replacements have occurred and now we are looking at the 7th. The vehicle only has 75,000 miles. It is serviced at bredaman Chevrolet in park ridge, il each time. Each time they tell me nothing is wrong with the braking system although they have replaced it twice for free.

I was driving my 99 Suburban on a snowy morning on a residential street in northern Utah. I was slowly approaching a stop sign and there was a car in front of me already stopped. I was going about 5-7 miles per hour. I applied my brakes, the anti-lock brake system was immediately activated, and we began to slide toward the vehicle in front of me. We stopped within an inch of hitting the car in front of me. Because the ABS was undesirably activated without any notice, it almost caused a collision. Our roads in northern Utah are frequently salted every winter and I suspect rust was a cause. I intend to have it fixed at a local dealership. This should be a recall item in Utah. My wife is the primary driver of this Suburban and she said it has happened to her too.
