I purchased my 2016 Chevrolet Suburban from Jupiter Chevrolet on March 18,2021 at that time the car had 74,931 miles on it after driving off it home 35 min away from the car lot I noticed the RPMS would go up on their own I called and asked what the cause of it and they would be said that it was normal because these new vehicle have the downgrade break. I drove it off and on since then this is a vehicle used for when we have a family trip or just store runs. My truck currently has 107,750 miles on it, that is a total of 32,819 miles put on this truck since 2021. On January 28,2023 as I was driving on the highway to the store that is three miles down the road the truck went into limp mode all the sudden Iwas almost hit by an 18-wheeler because it suddenly owed down and would not go over 20 mph. My daughter who is 5 years old was in the car with me at the time. I was able to turn around and slowly get it back home since I was not far, when I got home the check engine light came on I had my neighbor read the code and it said P0700 and P0796 they said to change the fluid and it would probably fix it so I took it to have the transmission oil changed and new filter put in and they told me then that I will need a new transmission because of all of the metal shavings that was in the oil and filter and on the magnet in the oil pan. There is no recall on this problem, I do not have that many miles on my car and have not driven that many miles to be having a transmission problem on my vehicle this is something out see on vehicles with 300k. miles on them. I must have my vehicle and right now I am not able to drive it at all, but I am still having to make the payments on a vehicle I am not able to drive.

I am wanting to report an issue with my 2016 Chevrolet Suburban, yesterday no January 23,2023 as we were driving on the highway my suburban suddenly stopped going into drive and the RPM's shot all the way up. We were going 65mph and were almost hit by an 18-wheeler that was behind us. We got to an exit and had to stop it scared our kids, the check engine light came on and were only able to drive 20 mph to make it home safely. We had the check engine light that came on checked and it came back with codes P0796 & P0700 we have looked it up and were not able to find a solution to these codes but i was able to find multiple people with the same issue and no solutions for them as well. Prior to the incident the car would accelerate on its own while you were driving. I Have called and searched for a recall but there is nothing listed, I think a recall should be placed since there are so many other people with the same issue. My vehicle has 107k. miles the others have a lot less miles on them.

While driving at speed between 18-35mph the transmission began to shutter. I attempted to make a left turn and the vehicle would not accelerate as I pushed on gas pedal. I believe the transmission failed almost causing us to be T-boned by another vehicle approaching intersection from opposite direction. This is definitely a important safety concern.

While the vehicle was in PARK on very slight incline, the vehicle began rolling forward on its own. No one was sitting in the driver seat, and the vehicle was not running. The vehicle rolled 6 feet into a tree. The tree stopped the vehicle from rolling off a 10 foot embankment. A minor was sitting in the passenger seat at the time of the incident. Minor damage occurred to the front grille and hood. No insurance or police were notified. No warning lamps or messages were displayed. The problem has not been reproduced.

I was getting on the expressway and with no warning as I was speeding up to merge with traffic my RPM-€™s went through the roof.I felt like I wasn-€™t going to get up to speed to merge with traffic cars had to slow down to let me on at the end of the merge lane.So I put the cruise on at 50 miles an hour. After I left the expressway it did the same thing when I had to stop at a traffic light, it took a long time to get up to speed limit with cars passing me. I had a check engine light come on as I got home, but I couldn-€™t back into my driveway like I usually did. No reverse. So I put an OBD-ll reader on it to check the engine light and it was a P0750 for a solenoid. Young-€™s confirmed this but said I needed a new Transmission and that the one in it was bad, even said it was their bread and butter of transmissions. Now I can see why!

The torque converter/transmission failed in my 2016 Chevrolet Suburban. It started shuddering while I was driving--no warning lights, system errors, info panel alerts or anything--and I came close to losing control of the vehicle, risking the lives of pedestrians, other drivers, myself, and my passengers. The torque converter/transmission problem was confirmed by a 3rd party mechanic, and also by TWO Chevrolet dealerships. Additionally, my mechanic informed me there was an active Technical Service Bulletin relating to this issue: #N212338770: "High Severity Fleet Transmission Torque Converter Proactive Service to Prevent Potential Failure." They told me to take it to a dealership-€"the dealership should pay for the repair. The TSB even states, "Dealers are to service all vehicles subject to this program at no charge to customers, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership, through February 28, 2023." However, I have since contacted FOUR different Chevrolet dealerships, and have paid for TWO additional diagnostic testing fees (in addition to the one I already paid my trusted mechanic). I am now out almost $500 and am no closer to having my vehicle repaired and safe to drive. I'm a single mom of 5 so it's rather important I have a mode of transportation that will fit my entire family. I cannot afford a rental for the likely 3 to 6 WEEKS I will be without my vehicle. I'm at a loss and have no idea what to even do next.

TRANSMISSION FAILURE - approximately 4 hours away from home, the transmission failed without warning. No warning lights or prior issue. We were stranded on the side of a major interstate for two hours awaiting a tow truck. After being towed to an independent service station, the mechanics discovered complete disintegration of the unit. There were no incident codes on the computer. A salvaged transmission was located and installed. Upon arriving back home, we had the dealer examine the vehicle which found no lingering issues. Once again, there were no incident codes on the computer.

After replacing my transmission on my 2016 suburban at 83k miles at the cost of $6,097 in January 2022, I was endangered again on 3/2/22 when I attempted to drive on the interstate. My SUV failed to accelerate and the check engine light started flashing. Thankfully, I was able to maneuver and exit the interstate as soon as possible and waited two weeks for an appointment at my local dealer. I did not drive the car on the interstate during this two weeks. I am told that my engine is misfiring and they are going to try to figure out why. My car (that is barely 5 years old - purchased 2/14/17) has both transmission failures and engine problems. And the air conditioner failed. The list goes on and on. NHTSA please check into accidents involving chevrolets. I could easily have died on the interstate two weeks ago and no one would have known that it was because my car would not accelerate. I am thankful to be alive after so many close calls with this car, but also fearful for my safety and others.

The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated while his wife was driving approximately 70 MPH, she felt the vehicle decelerate while the RPM-€™s increased. Additionally, there was a loud noise coming from the engine. The contact stated that his wife observed that the transmission warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that his wife was able to pull over safely. The contact towed the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 76,133. Pump on the transmission went which caused the toque converter to get damaged. They replaced the entire transmission.

Car is unable to be driven. Transmission needs to be replaced according to chevy dealer, James Corlew, in Clarksville, Tennessee. It has just over 83,000 miles, has never towed anything, not even once. This is clearly a defective transmission as seen in other models/years and Chevy should be covering this. Many, many complaints from other owners regarding this as well as a class action lawsuit that I have read about online regarding this.

On Friday evening, I noticed a higher revving noise when accelerating at lower speeds. The noise appeared to resolve at higher speeds. The noise continued into Saturday. After driving approximately 90 miles Saturday, while at highway speeds of 75mph, the engine stopped accelerating and began dropping speed. When pushing the gas pedal, the rpm revved up to 3-4000 immediately with no change in speed. Arriving at the destination quickly, I turned the car off. My husband got in approximately 5 minutes later, turned the car on, put it in drive, and the car immediately went backwards. This happened multiple times even though the car was in drive and the accelerator was pushed. The following morning (Sunday) after being turned off approximately 16 hours, the car cranked and drove normally through the yard about 500 feet. The car was then trailered 100 miles back home where it sits awaiting placement at the mechanic shop for diagnosis. At no point, including while driving, were there any warning signs/lights/noises to indicate the engine was failing. Thankfully children were not present in the car at the time, however this could have been a catastrophic event.

The contact's husband owns a 2016 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while her husband had merged onto the highway at 30 MPH, the vehicle began to hesitate without warning upon depression of the accelerator pedal. Her husband pulled the vehicle over and attempted to restart the vehicle; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was initially towed to their home and then to the dealer where they diagnosed the vehicle with a faulty transmission. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and denied covering the cost of the repair due to the vehicle being out of warranty. The vehicle was not repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 113,000.

Suburban

  • 101,200 miles
I have had 2 Suburban in the last 5 years and the transmission failed right around 100K miles on both. They have a serious issue with it but have managed to get away with it as there has been no class action against it. My 2015 Suburban broke down around 96K miles and my 2016 Suburban at 101K. I'm sure if this is further researched then 90% of the these models must have reported the same problem around 100K. I'm looking forward to sue GM over this, as after spending over us$125000 on making payments on 2 cars and don't have a car that I can trust for long trips, as it always happened when I was with my family on a long trip and had to spend thousands in making alternative arrangements to get home safely. Before my last trip, I sent my Suburban at the dealership for a 100K miles service at 99836 miles where I was in warranty where they checked and said everything looks fine for the trip and did a basic oil change with inspection but after a week of touring the transmission boke down at around 101250 miles. Where I had to shell out $6200 in total as the car went out of warranty in a week time. The break down is $4500 for repairs, $850 for shipping the car, $500 in car rental and hotel, $350 broken windshield in transit. Both of my cars have always been to dealership for the service and periodic maintenance but its their defected transmission that would never hold up. I'm looking for people who would want to make a class action lawsuit against this and bring justice to all owners. I have the VIN for both of my Suburban where one was bought used with only 8K miles on it with extended warranty and the other was brand new.
