This is the first time that I have tried to open the back window hatch in a couple of years and as soon as I opened it, the whole thing fell off completely on one side. The hinge came right off. And is now barely holding on on the other side. I was scared to drive it home because it seems like it can fall off at any moment. I was on the internet looking to find someone to fix this and that is when I found this website and all kinds of complaints of this same issue. These seems to be a manufacturing issue. Is it possible that there could be a recall on this? or how to get one started? Any advice on how much this will cost or where to bring it to will be great.

Thank you

Not only is the hinge coming apart at the top on the window but the gas shock where it is mounted to the window has also broken loose. This is a widow that is rarely raised. This should be repaired by the manufacturer, I guess if a small child gets hurt by this problem then they may do something.

One day the rear window wasn't closing properly. I checked and found the upper window plastic hinge was fractured. This must be a warranty defect because there was no reason for it to fail. The hinge is molded into the window and is really flimsy. This must be a rather common defect and it is certainly not up to regular use as we've hardly ever opened the rear window since we use the tailgate hatch almost exclusively.

I was trying to close my rear window one day and noticed that it wouldn't shut properly. After further inspection I saw that the rubber/plastic hinge had completely broken off from the glass. Not sure how much I'll have to spend, but I shouldn't have to buy a new rear window when the problem is the cheap rubber hinge.

This is an awful problem! I spoke to a pick a part auto parts owner and he said that he gets so many calls asking for the tahoe rear glass. I have also called the GMAC 1-800 number and was told that there had been no complaints about the rear glass and that I was the first. That's really hard to believe.

I opened my rear window one day and when I went to close it, it would not close straight. After further review, I noticed that the hinge that attached to the roof of my car had broken. I now cannot open the window or else it is difficult to close and I am afraid it is going to fall off. I called to get an estimate and, of course, they don't just sell the hinge, you have to purchase the whole window which is approximately $750 and with tax and labor it is going to be close to $1,000. It seems this is a manufacturers defect.

I never open this back window, and i notice that there are squeaks coming from the rear hatch, so i make sure it's shut tight.. I notice that the rear window is moving a little when i opened the hatch. It turns out that the window hinge has broken free from the glass, which is a very crappy mount, Now i see that GM does not cover this under warranty, and that you have to get your rear glass replaced. I'm sure it's expensive as hell, and it seems like this is not an isolated problem.. I have seen many more people with this problem, so i am wondering why there has not been a recall yet. Sooner or later someones back window is going to fall off.
