The transmissions stopped working while my wife was driving. The car stopped in the intersection. She was able to shut it off and it restarted so that she could pull into a parking lot. Car was towed to the dealer. The car has 74,000 miles on it and we were told it needs a new transmission and that it would cost $6900 to repair. I called GM and filed a claim with them in hopes they would offer some assistance. I was told nothing could be done. I have since spoke to several repair shops and checked the internet and have found out that it seems GM is having this problem often, for the years 2015-2017 for the Tahoe, Yukon, and Silverado.

All of a sudden my transmission (6 speed) started slipping. No abuse /drag racing lol. Just normal driving. I limped into my local dealer and they said the transmission was -??shot-?? and that they couldn-??t let m drive it home. Also the transmission mechanic was outside smoking and I vape so I started a conversation with him about these 6 sp transmissions and he said -?? I can-??t count how many I-??ve replaced-?? -?? even with less than 80k miles. This is negligent at the least by Chevrolet to intstall dangerous and threatening transmissions. Bad Chevy BAD!

I just experienced an issue with my transmission, I was driving home from work in cruise control and started up a bridge when my vehicle seemed to disengage the clutch and start rapidly slowing down (I was going up the incline of the bridge) and the motor redlined trying to maintain speed. I immediately switched it back into regular drive mode and noticed that the engine was not engaging with the transmission. I then placed the column shift into the manual setting and dropped down to 3rd gear, the tahoe gave a really abrupt and hard impact on the transmission and I got it to reangage to continue up the incline. This happened more than a dozen times in the remaining 15 miles to my home, both in and out of the manual setting. I did not attempt to go back to curise control. When I got home I turned the car off and checked the trans fluid level and saw nothing on the dipstick, I let it cool off and I have fluid past the "hot" mark and into the S curve of the stick. I was able to determine that my transmission was having a majority of its issues beyone 3rd gear. After doing some very quick research on Google it appears that I'm not the only one having transmission issues, primarily with 3rd and 4th gear of this year make and model. Is this something that is being investigated? My vehicle has 103k miles and is planned for a fluid change in the next couple of weeks (transmission, transfer case, and rear differential), per the O&M book that came with the vehicle. This just happened today and I have not had an opportunity to reach out to the dealership to question them about it. There were no warning indicators or error messages during the drive or during the time this occurred. All recall notices have been repaired on the tahoe to date, and I have kept up with the other fluid changes and other misc o&m recommendations. Please, any feedback would be very appreciated as this is my primary and safest vehicle to transport my kids.

Transmission on my 2017 Chevy Tahoe failed and needs a complete replacement. I notice a class-action lawsuit has been filed for other Chevy models but the Tahoe was not include although it has the same transmission/gearbox. I was on a major interstate when the transmission failed causing the vehicle to decelerate. The car was towed to a Chevy dealership where they have confirmed the transmission needs to be replaced and this has been an ongoing issue with this vehicle. There were no warning lights prior. The check engine light came on after the transmission failed.

The transmission went out at 93,000 miles and we took it in to be repaired under warranty. We were told a new transmission would be installed after being shipped from Detroit MI. When we picked up the vehice we discovered it was not a new transmission but a remanufactured transmission. We drove it home 25 miles home and it did not shift properly. We immediately called the dealership back to report it and was asked to bring it back. The dealership check it and said there was nothing wrong with it we just needed to drive it so it could learn our driving habits. This transmission lasted 104 days. We were out of town and my husband drove it to town to get breakfast and the transmission was slipping so bad he almost didn't get back with it. We had to have it towed to the nearest dealer 30 miles away and rent a car to get home. The second remanufactured transmission was installed by GM on 5/23/23 and we picked it up on 5/26/23. Upon driving it home this 2nd transmission was shifting hard. I contacted GM regarding it and was told to take it to be checked out. Once again we were told we just needed to drive it so it cold learn our driving habits. It is unsafe to drive as my husband drove it 4 miles to the grocery store and still at the traffic light he is pressing the gas to go and the vehicle would not move/go forward. He quickly had to put his flasher on and put the vehicle in park to keep from being hit from behind. He was finally able to get the vehicle to move and got home. The vehicle shifts so hard that it feels like you have been hit from behind by another car. GM keeps telling me there is nothing wrong with the vehicle but it is not safe to drive when you dont know if the transmission is gonna go out while you are going 70 mph down the interstate or get rearended becasue yourr vehicle doesn't move when the light turns green.

While driving down the highway at 65 MPH in a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe, towing a boat, the stabilitrak service light/warning message illuminated, the check engine light illuminated, the vehicle began to shake, lose power, unable to accelerate, and slowed down to 55 MPH automatically. While trying to pull off the side of the highway, the vehicle continued to slow down to less than 40 MPH with no ability to accelerate. The transmission fluid temperature went all the way up to 282 degrees. We pulled off the side of the highway, let the car cool down for about 15 minutes, restarted the vehicle and attempted to accelerate slightly but the vehicle made a high pitched whining noise and would not move. The vehicle was towed to a Chevrolet dealer and was diagnosed with a failed transmission. This occurred at approximately 78,000 miles.

January 23, 2023 - mileage (85K) 2017 Chevy Tahoe, Z71 What: Transmission/Drive Train 6L80 Hydromatic Transmission - Complete Failure Vehicle was idling in park, in a parking lot, as it was put into drive there was a loud clunk, then pressing the accelerator the vehicle would not move. Put the vehicle back in park, then reverse, this time the transmission engaged backwards, shifted to drive, it moved normally pulled out into traffic. Safety was put at risk when pulling into traffic and then being in the traffic and suddenly, pressing the accelerator the car was no longer moving forward, with other vehicles coming in the rear. Immediately I put on the flashers, bringing the vehicle to a complete stop in traffic in the middle of the lane as the vehicle would not move at all. This put me in danger of being rear-ended by the vehicle(s) behind me. Additionally, safety could have been at all times depending on situation and location. Managed to limp the vehicle home, where it sat overnight to drive to the dealership for diagnosis. No issues going from cold start to drive to travel 4 miles to the dealership, Mark Wahlberg Chevy. Dealership Service Diagnosis, complete transmission failure, likely torque converter issue (known problem), entire transmission was replaced with remanufactured. Warranty, just expired December 2022. Removing transmission, damaged muffler, had to be replaced. Reported to the GM manufacturer for assistance to replace transmission as the warranty just expired in December of 2022. GM Case number 9-xxxxxx filed on January 26, 2023. GM as far as I know did not come and see the vehicle. The old transmission is still at the dealership, I intend to take possession of it. There was no previous notice that this even was going to occur, no lamps, signs, check engine light, symptoms no were there any error codes produced just prior to this event nor do I believe at the time the vehicle arrived at the dealership on January 26.

About 3 weeks ago my vehicle began shuddering during acceleration only at low speeds, and I had an appointment to regularly scheduled maintenance next week and planned to have the dealer look at it during that appointment. However, 3 days ago, at about 84,479 miles I was merging on to the highway and when I attempted to accelerate to highway speeds the tachometer jumped to 6000 rpm-€™s and became very sluggish when accelerating. It calmed down, but shortly after calming down, the tachometer spiked again to around 4500 rpm-€™s at 70mph, the check engine light came on and the vehicle temporarily stopped responding to any input except to raise the tachometer reading. After shifting into manual and back into automatic the transmission reengaged but would not allow for normal acceleration. The vehicle was able to be driven at approximately 30-35mph while the tachometer stayed consistently at around 3500-4000 rpm-€™s. The trouble codes given were P0700 and P0796, both relating to transmission indicating a problem with it.

On 5/5/2022, I was driving my 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe. I pulled into traffic and then traffic briefly stopped moving. When I attempted to accelerate, my truck would not move. When I tried to accelerate, my truck began to roll backwards into the traffic behind me. My truck would only move in reverse. A passerby left his vehicle to assist me with backing up off the road as much as I could due to there being a ditch next to where I was stranded. My husband attempted to back the truck out of the road completely but the truck then slid closer to the drainage ditch. Roadside assistance had to be called and my truck had to be winched out and towed to my home on a flatbed. There were no warning signs prior to this incident. There were no warning lamps, no messages, no unusual smells or sounds nor did it drive differently. The closest GM dealership was unable to assess my truck due to them being backlogged and not having any available appointments. The truck was taken to two separate mechanics that stated that I need a new transmission. One was able to do a diagnostic and stated that the code for speed sensor failure read after the 2nd attempt. When the truck was taken there for repair the speed sensor did not read but instead the main control valve body was the fault code. The repair was completed and two days later the truck would not shift between gears. I had to take my truck to another GM dealer 30 minutes away. They diagnosed my truck and stated that fault code for an irregularity in shift solenoid B showed and that there was metal shavings in the transmission fluid. I also have Onstar diagnostic checks that reported no transmission issues on 04/14/22 and 05/16/22 that there were no transmission issues as well. Now Gm is refusing to address my issues because of the mileage being over the warranty. I could have been seriously injured because my vehicle stopped in traffic with absolutely no warning signs.

Around 84,429 miles accelerated onto freeway and check engine light on and slow to accelerate. Try getting up to speed on an interstate without response when you slam on the gas. Went to shop, generic 700 code many things, but recommend to stop driving immediately. Continued to be be slow accelerating, changing my driving patterns to where I was not turning left unless with a turn light, or driving out of my way to make right turns ( to go Left). After a week (and calling shops) it had to be looked at and diagnosed. Took to transmission shop, Rebuilt was offered for quicker turn around, they could start ASAP. Their comment was we see a lot of this model and keep enough parts for this Tahoe to start. Also noted when dropped off 2 other models of this generation Tahoe were in the shop. And a GMC Sierra around the same period (assuming same Transmission here). Test Drive with Manager, they repair a lot of Chevy Tahoes and suburbans, and Nissans. Those keep them in business. Sister in law was there to get her Nissan Transmission Rebuilt about 3 months prior. (No Toyotas in the shop or Parking lot) I wish I had visited a Transmission shop before looking for new cars, great insight to prevent expensive repairs. After repair last week all is right (as expected when accelerating )This should be a recall at point or at least extend the warranty on the drivetrain and repairs. Just a thought with the complaints here and the Transmission shops. Should be looked at, not just on the 2017 model.

My wife usually drives the Tahoe for short day to day commuting to and from work and bringing kids to practice, but I needed it for work one day and upon trying to accelerate onto the highway I noticed the transmission had no power when accelerating. I took it to a Chevy dealer and they were unable to diagnose the problem due to it not displaying a check engine light nor were they able to guarantee they would be able to determine the problem if they kept it longer for further inspection. I made an appointment with a shop down the road and after an inspection and test drive, they were able to determine that gears 3 and 6 were shot on the transmission. and that the engine was at 100% load going 55 mph. After waiting 4 weeks for a transmission, when we went to pick up our vehicle, he had 2 other Tahoes in the shop (2016 and 2019 with 77,000 and 51000 miles respectively) both needing new transmissions and said he has had many Suburbans and Silverados with same problem around the same miles. Shame on Chevrolet.

The contact owns a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle made an abnormal sound and would not accelerate. Additionally, the brakes failed to engage immediately while the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed with transmission failure. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure recurred with the gear shifter not shifting into Drive or Reverse. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 103,000.

4 days after getting an oil change, new tires, and a safety inspection I was driving to pick up my kids from school and my 2017 Tahoe stopped accelerating on the freeway. Was able to drive 15mph back to the mechanic who told me the transmission was shot. Needs a whole new transmission, estimated to be $6,000 and a 5 week delivery time. Not only that, mechanic said I-€™m the 3rd Chevy in the shop with the same problem waiting for a brand new transmission.
