I have a 2001 Chev Tracker 2.0 liter 4 cylinder standard transmission 4X4 part time 4 wheel drive. The vehicle has approximately 90,000 kilometers on it.
About six months ago a noise started in the (I think ) front end that seems to be related to wheel revolution. The first mechanic said it seemed like it was the transfer case when they tested it up on the hoist and engaged 4 wheel drive (now the front wheels were turning).
A transmission shop road tested the vehicle and said the noise was too dry for a transmission or transfer case problem. They thought it might be a wheel bearing problem. They said to wait for the noise to get louder and then take it in.
The noise has not gotten any louder.
All fluid levels are full.
The noise starts to get pronounced at 60 KPH and reaches a peak at about 100-110 KPH.
Any history of problems with front end, wheel bearings, CV joints front axle, etc. in the Tracker that would cause this noise ?
