The gas gauge not working is really a problem especially since gas is so high. We never know exactly how much we have in the tank. This morning the gas light was on when we started the car, went to get gas just to make sure, only put $25 in and got half a tank!!! Then went back to empty. I have seen many, many problems reported on this situation and I can't believe there is NO RECALL!

Update from Oct 23, 2011: We also own a 2005 GMC Envoy and the gas gauge just stopped working on that car as well. Called GM to complain and they have sent letters out to GM owners and will only pay 50% of the cost to fix the problem. Unbelievable!!! Two cars in the same household with the same issue yet no recall!

Fuel gauge quit working, had it replaced(before recall), and it went bad again. Ran 3 years using odometer for gas levels. Just last month got a recall-like letter from Chevy stating they will pay half of the repair, so I spent $170 to get the gauge fixed, and when I filled it up the first time it read 3/4. Some fix. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A FREE RECALL.

I had this fuel gauge repaired. Three different repair shops told me the cost would be over $500.00 and that the whole gas tank needed to be replaced. Literally two weeks after I had this repair completed, GM sent a letter that they'd pay for 1/2 the repair. I sent in my paperwork, and low and behold they only cover the repair if it is done at an authorized dealer.

They then decided they'd reimburse me half,,,,,,,,,,,,,half of replacing the fuel sensor only! Not one other repair shop was able to replace only the fuel sensor as they all said it was built into the tank with the sending unit, but GM has the availability to do it and out of the $550 they sent me $138.

My truck had $38,000 miles when this issue started and I just dealt with it for nearly two years because it was so expensive. $38000 miles, and that is BS!

I have not cashed my check and will not. I'm going to wait until there is a class action suit against them and go from there. This "good gesture as they call it" is a smoke screen so people think they are getting taken care of when really they are just getting TAKEN!

Well we have had the vehicle for a little over a year, bought used of course when the fuel light stopped working correctly. Luckily we have had it long enough to know about how many miles a tank it gets, so that has been a big help. Today I got a letter from GM, no they are not doing a recall, they know the problem and it has been on going it seems, they are willing to pay 50% of the repair costs if we have it fixed at a local dealership. Just seems after looking at all the complaints here it would be more of a recall and 100% of the cost paid by GM.

I OWN A CHEVY TRAILBLAZER AND WHEN I BOUGHT MY TRUCK THE GAS GAUGE WASN'T WORKING AND INSTANTLY THOUGHT THAT BALES SOLD ME A CAR WITH NO GAS. WELL SINCE THEN I HAVE RAN OUT OF GAS ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS WITH MY CHILDREN, AT NIGHT, AND THE WORST OF ALL ON MY WEDDING DAY LEAVEING THE CHURCH. MY HUSBAND AND DAD HAD TO PUSH MY TRUCK TO A SAFE PLACE. I THINK THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE EXISTING PROBLEM WITH EVERY PERSON I KNOW THAT OWNS A TRAILBLAZER THIS IS THE SECOND CHEVY I HAVE OWNED AND I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER CHEVY.

the gas gauge does not work. i can fill the tank up, and the light is on and dinging because the truck thinks that the tank is empty. have to guess how much gas is in the truck. me and my daughter have run out of gas twice.. just spent $125.00 getting the fuel line replaced because it was rusted out. the 02 sensor is not working check engine light is always on, took to the dealership and goodyear, both agreed that the truck is in great condition that its just the sensor that needs replacing, anywhere from $100-150. just spent $85 dollars getting the switch that controls 2WD/AWD/4WD replaced because it was switching at will. I do like my truck, but i wish that they would recall when the consumer is reporting the same problems. what happen to good honest business men/women my how times have changed, because there used to be a time when your word was all you needed. what a sad world we live in today, when the dollar rules and all ethics go right out the window. the founding fathers of Chevy/Ford etc..would be so disappointed.

I just received a letter from Chevrolet stating that as a owner of a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer I may experience problems with the fuel sensor. In some vehicles, the fuel level sensor may wear prematurely. This wear could cause the fuel gauge to read empty after filling the tank and cause the Service Engine and Low Fuel lights to illuminate. Then it states that it will eventually stop working. They are offering to pay 50% of the cost. There is no way I am going to pay anything for this since it obviously should be a recall. I called GM and I am taking my truck in to get it diagnosed & I told GM there was no way I am paying anything so they say they will work with me on a solution. I am supposed to hear back from them Friday! I ran out of gas this past winter with my 5 year old in the car while we were on our way to pick up my other children from school. It was snowing and cold and we almost got hit numerous times because we were stuck in the middle of the road!

I have owned many Chevy's in my life. My Dads motto......"you're not American unless you own a Chevy". So I always lived by that!!! Until I bought a Trailblazer....this has been the worst problem child anyone could have...and I am very disappointed in the fact that GM is not stepping up to the plate because of all the problems. The gas gauge is the most pain in the butt....you have to keep track of miles....and you never know if that is right. I ran out of gas once in the dead of winter with my children in the car....and I live in the country....thank GOD for cell phones we were stuck for 45 mins in the freezing cold. If maybe enough people keep complaining they will do something. I WILL NEVER BUY A CHEVY EVER AGAIN!

My Trailblazer recently started having problems with the fuel sensor. When I fill up the gauge is all over the place. It goes from saying there is no gas to saying I have a full tank. With less than 50,000 miles this shouldn't be happening. I have already had to fix way too much on this vehicle, this Trailblazer is probably going to be my first and last GM vehicle.

I have an 05 Trailblazer that I just had the cluster replaced in it in. Shorthly thereafter the fuel gauge started going from full to empty to half full even thought I just filled the tank. Then it got to a point where the vehicle would stall in the middle of an intersection or driving down the road and I would nearly get rear ended. The smell of GAS and FUMES was causing me to have headaches.

I love Chevy and have always loved Chevy but this Trailblazer SLT is making think otherwise and I think it's time to for a change. 750 to fix this and it's somethingwith all the complaints that GM has had should have fixed/ recalled.

Trailblazer LS V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 55,000 miles

After having the cluster replaced the fuel gauge started to malfunction. I'd fill the vehicle and the gas gauge would go to full and just as quickly return to the fuel light being on. This problem has caused considerable headaches. There are intermittent odors of gas, the car will stall just like it is running out of gas. I had to have it fixed finally after someone almost rear-ended me again as the vehicle stalled out as I was going through an intersection after filling the vehicle up with gas. The dealer pointed out that there was an investigation into this problem but nothing has been resolved by GM to date. Now my check engine light lit up.

I have had more problems with this vehicle in the time I have owned it than all the vehicles I had previously owned. Come on GM - fix this problem as I am now out another significant amount of money that should of been dealt with by the manufacturer. I have found alot of complaints regarding this problem and surely we can't all be wrong.
