My 2005 Chevy Trailblazer gas gauge no longer works. I see many other people are having the same problem and brought their vehicle to the dealer only to have paid $900 to have the fuel sensor gauge replaced.

Trailblazer 4WD 6-cyl

  • 37,000 miles
Fuel gauge failure, 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer with only 37,000 miles. Vehicle runs out of gas because of inaccurate erratic readings being sent to gas gauge. This household has two drivers and the problem is manifested when the secondary driver runs out of fuel in traffic causing the potential for both an accident or major traffic jam. Information on the web suggests this is a known problem for GM, but was never addressed. The expense to repair is very high.

Vehicle started by failure of the fuel gauge. It shows empty even though I have just filled up with gas. This occurs every time I fill up. Then the oil light has gone haywire, and fails to reset itself, it points down to the bottom of the gauge. Now my speedometer will without warning stop working and freeze on a certain number, then go down to below zero and not work at all. This has caused me to not know how fast I was going at times. After turning off the vehicle it resets itself, but then happens again the next time. I have taken the vehicle to the shop several times and have been told that it is the instrument panel. I have read several complaints all over the internet and from friends who have the same vehicle. This is not something that is unique to my car. This is a serious problem and can cause accidents and people stranded if it is not fixed, or if GM does not look into this issue.

My fuel gauge completely stopped working. The highest it would go was 1/4 tank of gas after putting in $70 worth of gas. And that fluctuated everyday. One moment it would have 1/4 then nothing. I had to use my trip meter until I had the money to have it fixed. According to the dealer the fuel sensor shorted. I know that my car is a 2005 with 87K miles, but this should not happen. There are so many complaints out there, I am shocked there is no recall yet. Are we waiting for someone to get seriously hurt?

Gas gauge sensor defective in my 2005 Chevy Trailblazer. Has been replaced twice. Safety issue; I have personally ran out of gas because of this. Replaced once while under warranty, replaced again 6/28 out of pocket cost because warranty no longer valid. After researching online and talking to other Trailblazer owners, this problem is pretty common and believed to be a defect with the vehicle.

I just got my 2005 Trailblazer 2 week ago and the car lot fail to inform us that the gas gauge was broken, , I was on my way home witch was over an hour away and my car ran out of gas, I had my 4 year old son with me and we had to walk in 90 degree weather to get gas, , and my son got a sun burn on his face and arms, I believe that if my gas gauge was working then I would have never been stranded along side of the road with my son.

My 2005 Chevy Trailblazer has suddenly stopped tracking the fuel amount, it has caused me to not know the amount of gas in the vehicle, I have also done research on the issue and many Trailblazer owners have the same issue. To have my vehicle suddenly stop is inconvenient and dangerous, especially when I am traveling on the interstate.

Gas gauge on my 2005 Chevy Trailblazer is defective. It stopped working at 55000 miles and the Chevy dealership wants over $600 to replace. I've been reading up on this and have found that this is happening all over to a lot of owners. I have no way to know how much fuel I have and have ran out on the interstate in the middle of winter 4 miles from nearest town with little cell phone coverage. Only way I can guestimate when to put fuel in is by going by the trip odometer. I commute over 400 miles weekly on the interstate but can't afford a $600 repair bill for something I feel should be recalled.

I have a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer that has a dashboard cluster failure. My speedometer and gas gauges do not work. I have no idea how fast I am going and how much gas I have left in my tank. This has been going on now for over a month. There are thousands of complaints on the internet from angry owners describing speeding tickets, running out of gas, odometer failing, dashboard lights dimming and warning lights appearing. GM is failing to take ownership of this defect and dealerships are charging $550 to $650 for repairs.

2005 Trailblazer fuel sensor unit. I received a call from Mr. Turner, from the executive office at General Motors, detroit Michigan, concerning the many letters I have sent to General Motors. 'in a nutshell' he said 'GM has not received any complaints about the fuel sensor unit and basically I was not being truthful concerning the unit' I referred, him to this particular web site and his comment was 'if complaints was not coming from the customers or dealer, the comments was basic useless' he suggested, that I take my vehicle to the Chevrolet dealer, at that point they would determine the problem and 'maybe' they 'might do something' in other words, you are out of luck. I would suggest that everyone bombard the president / CEO of General Motors with complaint letters concerning the fuel sensor or contact Mr. Turner at the number he gave me [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

I have a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer. The fuel gauge keeps showing empty when the tank is full. I almost got into and accident on the beltway today because my car just shut off of the highway. Luckily I was able to glide to the side of the road without killing anyone or myself. Some friends from work brought me some gas which got me home as soon as I was a block away from my house the car shut off again. Again I had to refuel just to get to the complex where I live. I had my two children in the car and only god knows what could happen if I just shut down and I have a speeder behind me. I have seen many other Chevy owners voicing their complaints about this same issue. I hope that someone does not have to die for them to do something about it like the Toyota dealers. Is their anyway that Chevy can be held accountable for these defects. Concerned parent.

Requests that NHTSA open an investigation into the performance/reliability of the fuel level sensor installed in model year 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer vehicles. The fuel tank level sensor is defective and could result in a subject vehicle running out of fuel, stall, and being rear ended by another vehicle.
