Fuel gauge system stopped working. Resulted in stalled vehicle. Gauge would intermittently work. Now it no longer registers any fuel.

I have a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer with a faulty gas gauge. The gauge will show how much fuel there is and then it will slowly go down to "E". I have to keep records of how much fuel that I put into the vehicle so that I do not run out of gas. This vehicle also has a faulty horn, where I need to turn the steering wheel for the horn to function.

The dealer performed a diagnostic test that did not display a failure code. When the dealer test drove the vehicle, the failure did not occur. The manufacturer advised the contact to take vehicle back to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 36,800 and the current mileage was 40,346.

This vehicle has had a number of electrical and /or computer problems. The first set of tires on the vehicle were worn out because the computer would say they had low pressure, so we would fill them and check them with the onboard tire pressure, otherwise it would continue to say the tires were low. The gas gauge goes from full to empty and back at least 10 times a day, they say at the service dept it's the fuel sending switch. Service stabilitrac warning comes on at various times. I think all warnings (lights and through the computer screen) have come on at least one time, some we had to stop the car and look up what the light was in the book. Now the ignition switch has something wrong, the steering wheel will not lock when the car is shut off and the key is removed. Then the car won't start unless you work the key and the switch. Today it started and then quit when you let go of the key and it goes to the run position. When you turn the key on, there is weird noise like electrical short or something. There have been problems with window switches and regulators.

My 2007 GM trail Blazer's fuel gauge began to show an empty tank when I would fill it up, and then when I would drive for a while, it would register full. Eventually the engine light started coming on and going off at random. I took the vehicle to a garage and was told it would cost approx. $800. I could not afford that, so I started inquiring about the fuel pump and fuel sending unit. Eventually I found a web site where I could purchase the sending unit for approx. Half the retail price. I ordered the sending unit, took the vehicle to a garage to have it repaired and have not had any other problems with either the gauge not registering properly or the engine light coming on. If this investigation becomes a recall, since I have already made the repairs, can I be reimbursed? I would appreciate your response when your decision is made. Thank you.

Gas gauge does not read correctly. Sometimes reads high, sometimes reads low, reads empty after filling the tank. Gauge sometimes moves noticably while standing still. Dealer replaced the sensor on the fuel level sender at a cost of $393.39 - this fixed the problem.

I have 2007 Trailblazer and the fuel gauge just decided it does not want to work anymore after my mother in law had it for like 8 months. I got it from them March 2010 and the gauge didn't work.... I have reported it to the dealer and "it is not covered". it is rather expensive to get fixed..... I have never gotten this fixed because it was not covered under warranty and I do not have the money to fix this. I think that this is kinda like a lemon law thing. Just thought I would report this and maybe get some help.. surely mine is not the only one......... this should be covered or fixed free of charge because it is not something we have done to the vehicle..... **** the date of the incident is really unknown.. I do not remember because it started not working when my mother in law had it. But it stopped working when she had car an I got it in March of 2010. The mileage right now in 2011 is 75,000 so it is not wear and tear there's no way it can be......... thank you-

Fuel gauge reads when tank is full but as fuel is used gauge will intermittently go to empty and alarm will sound. I cannot be sure how much fuel is ever in the tank. I must rely on the odometer readings to approximate the range remaining. I fear running out of gas and getting in an accident.

One day I was driving my Trailblazer after I filled it up and a few miles down the road the gas gaugue went to empty.it does everytime time I fill up it will got to full then goes to epmty right down the road. Been doing since November 0F 2010 (88,000) and as of March 2011 (94,000) its still doing it. I have to calculate my gas milage. I called cox the dealership and they wont fix it for free there is no recall on this and there should be. There is hundreds of complaints about this. I was driving down the highway once in the fast lane with my 2 year old son and I ran out of gas and almost got hit by 2 cars behind me. I got stranded for 2 1/2 hours till I got someone to bring me gas. This needs to be recalled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My 2007 Trailblazer runs out of gas when gauge says full, have run out at 70 mph without notice on highway. Have no idea when it is working or not will show full one minute then empty the next. Repair is costly and have resulted to resetting trip meter, however if I forget or sit in traffic more than usual it is not accurate. I have run out of gas more times in the last 6 months than my whole life. Very unsettling to be stranded not to mention unsafe to be in car not knowing when going to just stop. I have been told that it is the fuel sending unit. There are many many 2005 - 2007 Trailblazer owners on numerous chat and complaint boards, why is there not a recall. I only have 65,000 miles this is ridiculous and not safe. Thank you for your time.

Fuel sender fails resulting in false report by fuel gauge as empty tank. Incidences started in December 2010, 4 months after vehicle purchase, approximately 17,800 miles driven on vehicle, 5,000 by second owner. Endangers driver by possibility of becoming stranded by running out of gas. Repair, not covered by manufacturer, is prohibitively expensive, $500+, due to possible need to replace more than just sensor. Incidents occur daily, as gauge sometimes resets on start up, then fails while driving, and sometimes immediately after start up. Well documented defect of fuel system online and by repair shops, claims of no responsibility of defect by Chevrolet/GM.
