Traverse LTZ 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 108,000 miles

Traveling home after an out of town trip, upon exiting the freeway, the vehicle hesitated/surged (felt like it would stall) and immediately the check engine light came on. I was at a corner with a gas station so I pulled in there. I checked the oil and it was down about 2 quarts (keeping in mind I had only gone about 1500 miles since my last oil change). When I tried to start the vehicle, I heard a load grinding noise and it stalled. I was stranded there for 2.5 hours waiting for a tow. It was towed to a service shop and was there 4 days, during which time, I had no vehicle to get myself to work or transport my kids to school.

Finally it was determined that the timing chain had jumped (cost me roughly $100 for an hour of labor). Since this was covered under an extended warranty, I again had to wait with the vehicle for over 2 hours for a tow to transport the car to the dealer. The vehicle was with the dealer for 3 weeks. Although the timing-chain related issues were covered, my out of pocket cost was roughly $400 for spark plugs and repair of some seal or valve leaking.

Upon picking up the vehicle, I notice that the gas light was lit. And wouldn't you know it, within the 5 miles I needed to go, I literally ran out of gas a few feet away from the gas station I was trying to get to.

The timing chain went out in our '09 Traverse AGAIN. We had it replaced under warranty the first time it went out about four years ago. This is absolutely ridiculous! How is it possible with the technology of today that a vehicle should have the same failures repeatedly?! This time it was all out-of-pocket to the tune of $3000. And it hasn't run correctly since! It's been back in the shop four times for issues arising all from the blasted timing chain! This time it sat at the shop for five WEEKS and one Day before they finally called to tell me that they figured it out and it's another $2049.64. I have always been a Chevy person. Not. Any. More.

Traverse LS 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 83,000 miles

Timing change broke on the vehicle and caused heads and valves to bend. I found out that GM extended the warranty. So I had it taken to #1 Cochran in Monroeville, PA. My car has been there for 3 1/2 weeks now! With no loaner! And they took forever 'diagnosing' the problem. I think they were trying to figure out a way so that they were not responsible for it. They finally said that 'they got GM to agree to pay for the other engine damage'!

Should not even have been an issue!! The timing chain broke and caused further engine damage! They are responsible for it! They tried to convince me that I was lucky GM was paying for it! And refuse to give me a loaner! I freaking bought the car their!

I spoke to them last week and they are 'still waiting on parts'! Really??? After 3 weeks?? I'm fed up with #1 Cochran and I am fed up with GM!!! Next vehicle will NOT be a GM and will NOT be purchased at #1 Cochran!
